At this time in 2008:
Ron Paul - 115,278 votes
Mitt Romney - 801,325 votes
As of now:
Ron Paul - 285,038 votes (+147.3% from 2008)
Mitt Romney - 1,164,273 votes (+45.3% from 2008)
Understandably, Mr. Romney has gained votes due to his being perceived as the front runner since before the race began.
However, Dr. Paul's gain is due to an overall change in the voting populace's fundamental ideas about government.
We have every reason to be energized about this race!
Also, consider this from 2008:
- one second place finish (NV) ~ note: his placement here was a very distant second
- four fifth place finishes (IA/NH/SC/FL) ~ note: his placement in these states were essentially last place finishes (for multiple reasons)
- two last place finishes (CO/MN) ~ note: he did come ahead of Alan Keyes, but that doesn't count for much considering he barely contested
Compared to this from 2012:
- one second place finish (NH) ~ note: his placement here was a fairly distant second but he did manage to bring Romney's lead under 40%
- two third place finishes (IA/NV) ~ note: his placement in IA was less than 4,000 votes away from first and in NV less than 750 votes from second
- two last place finishes (SC/FL) ~ note: he was last but in both states his turnout compared to 2008 was much greater
Overall, Dr. Paul's turnout has massively increased (minus NV) across the country.
Here's to doing exceptionally well in CO and MN tomorrow!
