I've been asking active Republicans behind the scenes about the delegate process in Milwaukee County . Obviously, we need delegates for Ron Paul to win the WI nomination. Here is a cut/paste from a person higher up in the Republican party:

1. Membership year for RPMC is from July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008. Join now (http://www.milwaukeecountygop.com/siteimages/milwaukeecountygop/clubdocs/1186966994.pdf) & membership will carry anyone through the spring caucuses usually conducted in April, which is where the delegates are elected. Individuals can join whatever branch they choose. Most people join the branch where they reside. If they do not choose a branch, they will be assigned the branch where they reside.
For purposes of delegate status, individuals will be assigned to the Congressional District (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisconsin_Congressional_Districts) where they reside. Hopefully, the individuals you want to join live in the 4th Congressional District (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:WI_4th_Congressional_District.png) -- which is made up of the entire City of Milwaukee , all of West Milwaukee , the eastern side of West Allis (basically, east of 76th Street ), all of the cities of St. Francis, Cudahy & South Milwaukee.

As long as an individual lives SOMEWHERE in the 4th CD, they have a good chance of being a delegate from the 4th CD. I recommend joining the Milwaukee South Branch (covers the entire City of Milwaukee south of I-94) as it has the highest number of delegate votes and has almost no leadership in place. After that, I recommend the South Shore Branch (http://www.southshoregop.org/), which has fewer delegate votes but equally weak leadership.

According to this person, the Milwaukee South Branch has NO leadership at all and Ron Paul Supporters could pretty much take it over if we had four people sign up.

2. RPMC Constitution (http://www.milwaukeecountygop.com/siteimages/milwaukeecountygop/clubdocs/1124809871.pdf) & By-Laws (http://www.milwaukeecountygop.com/siteimages/milwaukeecountygop/clubdocs/1164084658.pdf) and the Uniform Constitution for Branches. Tell potential members to get familiar with the documents.

The next RPMC Executive Board meeting is November 27th, likely starting around 6 p.m. at our new HQ in West Allis . This is a good opportunity for the "new members" to meet the RPMC leadership & start playing the game. Let me know if anyone wants to attend and I can give you more details

In Wisconsin, the rule is the campaign of the winning candidate gets to select who it wants to represent them at the national convention and they submit that list to a Congressional District Convention for Congressional District delegates (each district gets three delegates, winner-take-all) and the state convention for statewide delegates (who also go to the candidate that won the state) for approval.

I would be very interested in joining. I live on the North Side of Milwaukee, but it looks like the south side branch would be the wisest choice. I think it would be a great idea to have a meeting with the local meetup group here in Milwaukee to discuss this topic. I will email Justin and see what he thinks. I just joined the Milwaukee meetup and have yet to attend a meeting, but I look forward to meeting everyone in the area!

What if I'm currently a Democrat?

What if I'm currently a Democrat?

In Wisconsin, they hand you three ballots (Republican, Democrat & Other).
One goes in the bucket and the other two in the trash. You do not have to declare a party in order to vote.
