Is there anyone here with connections to the Church? i think this would be a public relations coup. The Pope supports non-interventionism and peace, pro-life, etc. How can we make this happen?

He plans to visit ground zero, address the United Nations and celebrate two public Masses during the six days of his visit, The Associated Press reported this morning, citing a Vatican official.

Catholics 4 RonPaul - Let's see if we can make this happen!

I think the positions of the Vatican are in line more with Ron Paul than any other. There has to be a realization among more though that freedom is true social justice, not socialism.

"The concept of a 'preventive war' does not appear in the Catechism of the Catholic Church"
- Pope Benedict XVI

“Reasons sufficient for unleashing a war against Iraq did not exist”
- Pope Benedict XVI

"When war, like the one now in Iraq, threatens the fate of humanity, it is even more urgent for us to proclaim, with a firm and decisive voice, that only peace is the way of building a more just and caring society"
- Pope John Paul II

"Violence and weapons can never resolve the problems of man."
- Pope John Paul II

"Torture is a humiliation of the human person, whoever it is. The Church does not allow these means to extract the truth."
- Cardinal Renato Martino, head of the Vatican pontifical council on peace and justice.

Yes, why wouldn't he support Ron Paul? Is there any way to set up a meeting? How about we call / email the Vatican??

That's a great idea! I know a few local preists - does anyone know a Bishop or someone higher in the church?

Help me write the email - shouldn't it come directly from the campaign?

I like the idea, although I would far prefer it if JP2 was still around. Benny 16 doesn't have the same universal appeal, and he's even been linked to Nazism (I don't buy it, but some do), which we don't need. Plus, it might rub some people the wrong way if they don't want religion mixing with politics anymore, and evangelical Protestants could be offended.

Just War Theory, Popey!

It would be a violation of US law for Ron Paul, a house rep, to meet with a foreign head of state. This is as foolish as the idea of him meeting with Ahmedinjad that was floated here a few months ago.

Not only that, but it would be pointless since the Catholic Church would obviously be for their guy, Giuliani because he is well already Catholic and will do what they want to some extent because of that. And a Catholic endorsement would actually hurt Ron Paul here in SC if it was given any attention because everyone here is protestant generally. There are of course plenty of Catholics, but when the numbers are compared there are a lot more protestants that want a protestant candidate. I know it sounds strange, but its true. The 3 most common questions I get asked here about Paul are these in order of how common they are: is he pro-life or pro-choice, what is his religion, and where is he from.

That's not true. Logan typically only covers negotiations and foreign policy agreements, not a simple meeting. Nobody has ever been convicted under Logan.

if you don't think the church has it's own ageda that would be furthered from another loser in the whitehouse, then you are sadly mistaken.

The Vatican was against both Geraldine Fererro (the VP in '84) and Kerry in '08. Both were Catholic but pro-choice. Being both pro-life and non-interventionalist, RP is right up their alley.

Do you guys understand that the Catholic Church is the largest Christian Group in the United States....Do you know how big it would be if we got an endoresment from the Pope?

What? Since when? It seems like I remember US Reps meeting with heads of state many times in the past. What about Pelosi jetting around the world to meet with foreign leaders? Didn't Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. make a big deal about meeting with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf?

Sources please.

Also, I don't think the Vatican endorses candidates. They will oppose a candidate based on a stance, but I haven't heard of an endorsement.

Mark my words, never gonna happen. Probably better that it won't. I'm sorta glad P. Robertson endorsed Ghoulie. If any principled Christians endorse Dr. Ron I'm all for it, but we don't need to wish for the support of individuals or organizations with so much baggage and historical ambiguity.

Is there anyone here with connections to the Church?I have a direct line to God, but it's busy right now. He did give his approval for December 16th when I talked with Him the other day.

I don't think we'd need an outright "endorsement" from the Vatican for Ron. Giuliani was using Pat Robertson's friendly words as a virtual endorsement for months before he got the official one. But a very friendly meeting between Dr. Paul and the Pope? It's about the news stories and awesome photo ops that that would generate. Can anyone say Rudy Giuliani on Downing Street? Remember how much good press that got him? We could feasibly do something similar for Ron.

I'd take a pope endorsement over a Pat Robertson endorsement any day of the week, and I'm as protestant as you can get.

With Paul's pro-life and just war theory positions I think he could do quite well within the Catholic demographic.
