Most conservatives (honest ones at least) will accept that Bush was AWFUL with regard to spending, not vetoing, etc.
They usually retort with...if Romney wins the nomination I'll have to vote for him in November because ANYONE is better than Obama. (Yes I'm in a red state and they buy the radio pundits lines wholesale)
Instead of saying "no one but Paul" I reply, "The GOP must EARN my trust back. I'm tired of believing their words and want to see ACTIONS to prove they actually mean that they are small government conservatives. Fool me once, shame on me... "
Another good line is
"If this economy is going to collapse, I'd rather it see at the feet of actual socialism than at the feet of a supposed "small government" conservative. If the economy fails on Romney's watch, the Republican party is completely done for decades!"
They usually stop posting at that point ;)
