If there is one thing most Americans don't seem to really understand because there is hardly any actual information out there explaining it, it is healthcare costs. Everyone knows it is expensive, along with insurance, and there is clearly a government presence in the industry on a much higher level than every other country to the degree that we pay about twice as much for healthcare per person, publicly than other developed countries. But why? Why is it so expensive and why do some people believe the free market is the answer, and others believe government is the answer?

Are there any good books that actually look into the issue and explain it in depth? There is a lot I need to learn about this topic as it is one of the least I am educated about, but I think most people have that sentiment.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I did a research paper on health care and I used a great book and a CATO white paper on Obamacare.

Healthy competition - What's holding back health care and how to fix it
and
Bad medicine - A guide to the real costs and consequences of the new law
