View Full Version : Why do people read Drudge Report?

I'm curious about why anyone reads this? The layout is horrible and it doesn't seem to have any depth of research beyond what 1000 other news sites are offering.

Yet, quite a few people who consider themselves knowledgeable about current events seem to be fond of this website for some reason. Sure I can understand wanting to read some non-corporate news, but there are thousands of other news sites that are independent and don't have websites that look like they were made by a class of 2nd graders. Why Drudge? What does Drudge offer that other sites don't, that makes up for the eyesore factor?

Can anyone please explain?

Habit.

He broke the Lewinsky scandal and he's been a darling of conservatives ever since. We (as libertarians) are lucky to have him; he could be a lot worse.

Quickest place to find all the news that interests me...other than here.

I like Drudge. I don't actually visit the site (I subscribe to the RSS feed), but it's quick one-stop-shop for all the big stories of the day. All it does is provide links to other outlets. It does its job, to be honest. Hell, it even links to Infowars every once in awhile.

Minimalism in web design is underrated.
And Drudge is good at knowing his audience.

Yup, the big headline and big image he made popular is now being copied by Huffingtonpost.

The design is very simple but works and that's all that matters.

Design doesn't matter. He has the best nose in the business of what makes the news. And he is the fastest. Who else?

Yes...he could be worse and he is good at what he does..makes "conservative" news available to "conservative" people

I never go there and don't know anyone that wants to know what's really going on that goes there. It is a sheeple site, nothing more.

Strange. I actually like the layout.

There is nothing wrong with the layout, it is the content of his site that sucks. Personally I don't like the guy, but that is a different matter.

Aggregation with clever headlines.

Been using Drudge since 98' or 99'. Links to many important stories. Intuitive interface. No trickery or sifting through ads to find the story. Multiple multiple headlines from left right and center. Updates 60/60/24/7. With as many hits as Matt gets he STILL sets the page refresh to like 60 seconds. Matt is all about sharing the important stories with the largest audience possible and getting the story out first.
