Spring is coming, and my wife loves to garden. She just got her first seed catalog in the mail today, from some company called Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds out of Missouri. I think they're pretty well known.

They have THREE Ron Paul quotes in it:

"Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms."
-Congressman Ron Paul

"Starting wars because someday somebody might do something to us. That is not part of the American tradition."
-Congressman Ron Paul

"War is never economically beneficial except for those in position to profit from war expenditures."
-Congressman Ron Paul

I skipped through it, and there are only a couple other quotes in there... ones from Gandhi, Einstein, William Penn, Lincoln, Ben Franklin, and Andy Rooney. Most are either about peace, or in a couple cases, tomatoes.

Another good quote was from Lincoln: "Allow the president to invade a neighboring nation, whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion, and you allow him to do so whenever he may choose, to say he deems it necessary for such a purpose - and you allow him to make war at pleasure."

I am in no way connected with this company, but passing this along because I think it's awesome they put that in there: http://www.rareseeds.com

I buy from them every year, great company and total Ron Paul supporters. They have many of the best varieties availible and are cheaper than most heirloom seed companies. Jere Gettle is awesome. The catalog is beautiful as well, I saw those comments when I got my catalog earlier last year but I knew they were RP supporters before. I can vouch that these seeds are great, high germination rates and varieties from old times which no one else has.

He also held the first heirloom seed conference in the US last year here in California, good times. They have a seed bank in Peteluma, in the old bank. Let them know you support RP when you order and you may get some gifts, I did last year.

I have never ordered from them but I got my first catalog from them in Dec. It is absolutely beautiful and full of great info! O loved the Ron Paul quotes of course and was thrilled when I came across the first one (and each one after!). We plan to make a good order with them. :)

The tomatoes and peppers performed exceptionally even here at 5200' The tiger melons are also really nice. I made a huge order last year and grew out some exceptional produce. The purple broccoli and purple cauliflower are great as well.!

i told my wife to do all of ours seed shopping from them. We're in a city, but have a big yard... I made (and wife canned) about 16 quarts of tomato sauce last year and hope to double that this year.

This company gets good reviews on Dave's Garden Watchdog:

I recommend using davesgarden.com as a reference for checking up on a company before you order from them. Also, if you get good service from Baker Creek be sure to give them some positive feedback to help them maintain their positive status.

I was scrolling through to the end of the thread to post this info but you beat me to it. Baker Creek is my favorite seed company. It was started by a guy in his mid-teens in the late nineties and is dedicated to preserving our nation's supply of open-pollinated seeds. GREAT company, excellent seeds, very nice people to work with, and a true American success story. I have been getting their catalogs since their second year and am proud to support such company.(Did I mention they were Ron Paul supporters? :D)

I've used Baker Creek a lot in the past, excellent source for seed. I had no idea they were Ron Paul people

PS I think they are out of the great state of California, not Missouri

Nothing better than hearing a success story like that. Amazing!

This quote of course comes from Abraham "Northern Aggressor" Lincoln. Hypocrisy is neat.

I got my seeds I bought form Rareseeds.com. They had quick service - shipped USPS priority mail. No word yet on germination rates. So far, I'd recommend.
