The California Republican party is not allowing unaffiliated voters to vote in the presidential primary[1]. Since this fact has not been shared widely, this means many non-affiliated voters will be turned away when it comes time to vote!

To vote for Ron Paul in California, you need to re-register to vote as a Republican here:

http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm before January 21.

I recommend taking a couple minutes to do it now, since you'll probably forget later.

Also, this year the California Republican Primary will NOT be winner-take-all[2], which means your vote will make a difference in helping Ron Paul get nominated! So plan on going to vote!

If you need any more information, send me an email pennycoder@gmail.com.

Note: The Republican party was supposed to file in accordance with SB 28 before 135 days prior to the (Feb. 5th, 2008) election, and they have not done so.

Just verify that you are registered already and you should be fine.

I don't know about the electoral collage, but I really like the idea that the delegates are not winner take all in the convention.

NO. The point is that in previous primaries in California, those registered as "deline to state" (aka independent) could choose which primary they want to vote in. The GOP is NOT allowing that in 2008. In order to vote in the GOP primary in California, you MUST be registered as a Republican. This is going to confuse a lot of independent voters because in the past, indpendent voters COULD vote in the Republican primary. In 2008, they will not be able to. Many probably do not know this fact. This is EXTREMELY important, and needs to be spread, AND STICKY-D. Otherwise, the casual Ron Paul supporter who is registered as "decline to state" and does not re-register as a Republican 15 days prior to Feb 5. will not be able to vote for Ron Paul!!!!!

California awards delegates by congressional district. Whoever gets the most votes in each congressional district gets 3 delegates. We really need to win many of the congressional districts in California to win.

Note: For those who might wait to register, please note that CA does allow full online registration. A signature is still required. You can fill in your form online and they will mail a copy of your registration form to you for your signature. You'll still need to sign and send it back. OR you can download the form from the site, fill it out, and then send it to your County Elections office. They provide a link for this. Don't wait until January thinking you can do it ALL online.

This has been the rule for while it's nothing new and the last day to re-register is two months away. It's important for converts more than anything not people who already support who are on the forum.

MODS, please STICKY this. California is an extremely important state and this information needs to be displayed up top so California Residents can read this.

Thank you.

Are there many Ron Paul supporters in the California gold rush areas?

Many who live in the California mountains tend to be more self sufficient, favor privacy and are freedom oriented.

I mailed my California registration in about a month ago to switch to the Republican party.

There was no verification mailed back to me after I sent in the registration. Is there a way to find out if I was successfully registered Republican? (I don't exactly trust the machine)
