I might be a litle late with this but I just discovered it in my junk mail:

States are looking for revenue ... the federal government is looking for revenue ... so their newest target is the WORLD WIDE WEB.

In 1998, President Bill Clinton signed the Internet Tax Freedom Act into law, preventing governments from taxing internet-only activities such as bandwidth, email, or putting multiple taxes on any kind of electronic commerce.

But, the Internet Tax Freedom Act was not made permanent, which means Congress has to periodically extend it. The current moratorium on taxes is set to expire on November 1, 2014.

That is only two years from now. But, the economy is bad. So as you read this, more than 30,000 state and local governments and 7,600 taxing authorities are chomping at the bit, searching for loopholes that will enable them to open up the Internet to oppressive taxation and regulation before that November 1st, 2014 date.

Don't think for a minute that because the moratorium is in effect that this issue is going away.
It isn't.

Barack Obama and his liberal friends want to continue their spending free-for-all, and they don't want to have to buckle down and control expenses. So, they are trying to get around it.

They can't wait to get their hands on revenue. And YOU will be providing them with that revenue.

Please join our e-mail campaign and help NoInternetTax.org keep the internet safe from greedy bureaucrats. We have prepared a letter for you to send to America's fifty governors and every Member of Congress, opposing internet taxation. We are working to educate consumers across America about this important issue - and we ask for your urgent participation as we work to stop an internet tax. Please click here to sign the letter, today!

Work has already begun at both the state and federal levels to find new ways to tax your online activity.

AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL - Senator Dick Durbin introduced the "Main Street Fairness Act" earlier this year ... Obama's overreaching FCC is workingon all kinds of internet regulations ... Hollywood is pushing its Stop Online Piracy bill ... and we can expect more activity of this kind in 2012.

AT THE STATE LEVEL - The National Governor's Association has introduced an unconstitutional "Streamlined Sales Tax Project" (SSTP). Under this proposal, a "national collection center" would be established to monitor and audit your internet purchases. Your personal information and Internet shopping habits will be stored by a "trusted third party" or government body. Or, states can subscribe to a national "cartel" tax collection system - which in essence, will mean a NATIONAL SALES TAX!

WARNING: Do you want the government collecting and storing your personal information, as well as data on your shopping habits, and finances? Do you want a national sales tax? Do you want every aspect of your online activity to be subject to a tax?

This debate is not about tax or no-tax, because YOU ALREADY PAY TAXES ON THE INTERNET. It is taxed in the same way that catalogues, mail order and TV sales are. Every time you access the internet you are paying telecommunication taxes. But, a significant number of online purchases, such as travel and financial services, are services not subject to sales tax in any form - electronic or otherwise.

This debate is about the collection of usage and sales taxes. It's about more, more and MORE.

More Big Brother. More government. More regulation. More control.

IF YOU DO NOT PROTEST THIS, your apathy opens the door to every taxing entity not only in your State or country to slap a tax on you, it opens the door for every world entity - including the United Nations - to claim that your online activities are open to their greedy pockets.

NoInternetTax.org opposes any kind of internet tax - and we need your help to PROTECT THE INTERNET from burdensome regulations and unnecessary taxation!

NoInternetTax.org believes:

The moratorium on Internet access and discretionary taxes should be made permanent.
Taxes on Internet access are regressive by nature and only serve to widen the Digital Divide.
The United Nations, World Trade Organization and European Union have no right to try to impose or collect taxes on U.S. citizens.
The Streamlined Sales Tax Proposal, supported by the National Governor's Association, is unconstitutional and violates consumer privacy through its "national collection center" which stores personal information and Internet shopping habits.
EVERYTHING is on the table. Think about all the ways YOU can be TAXED for your online activities: things like downloads, email, e-Commerce purchases, MP3 files, broadband access, ISP access are all up for grabs ... every aspect of the internet is going to be fair game.

Don't let them open the door. If you don't raise your voice in opposition today, who knows what they will tax tomorrow.

We must fight tooth and nail against Dick Durbin's "Main Street Fairness Act," and we must tell every American governor to "JUST SAY NO" to SSTP.

Durbin's Act isn't fair. SSTP isn't fair. Taxing the internet would not be fair. These actions will result in the END of tax-free shopping online as we know it...and they will force a slew of new government regulations into play, every time you want to make an online purchase!

Help us keep the internet free from government control.
