Sweeping protests around the world made it an extremely difficult year for the media, and tested journalists as never before, the annual report into press freedom reveals.

The annual report by Reporters Without Borders has been released, showing the United States fell 27 points on the list due to the many arrests of journalists covering Occupy Wall Street protests.

The slide in the United States places it just behind Comoros and Taiwan in a group with Argentina and Romania.

They deserve it. The press in this country is an absolute sham.

Free State Project journalists are regularly arrested in New Hampshire as they press to assert their rights. The example that seems to stick out the most is Tally.TV reporter Jason Tally who was roughed up as he was arrested for asserting his right to record public trial proceedings. The courts regularly make it a breeze for the major networks to gain access to court, but nearly impossible for the rest of the media. The main idea there is to do their damned'est to ensure you have to pay hundreds of dollars to figure out what was said in court, even when transcripts have been accused to end up altered in the past. Sam Dodson is another example slightly further back, also arrested for trying to assert his right to a free media in public courtrooms.

USA: 2010 score was 6,75 (distance from top 6,75). In 2011/2012 is 14,0 (distance from top 24.0). :D

47th in freedom and they still let us show Santorum during family viewing - and without a "may be disturbing to some viewers" warning.
