Ralph Raico (http://www.lewrockwell.com/politicaltheatre/2012/01/the-mystery-of-the-sc-primary/):

In the War Between the States, many tens of thousands of heroic Southerners died defending their new country against the invaders from the North.

But ever since Appomattox, a strange thing has happened. In a kind of “Stockholm Syndrome”---where victims identify with their persecutors---the South has been the most bellicose champion of whatever wars the men in Washington decided to embroil the country in. Before the Second World War, for instance, the America First Committee was never able to gain a toehold south of the Mason-Dixon Line, though it had mass support in the Northeast, in the Mountain States, and throughout the great Midwest.

Strange that Southerners should choose to betray their own ancestors, who witnessed the murderous invasion and the ruthless destruction of their land. Maybe they just like to get into fights?
