It's kind of odd to me that such as transparent, honest man like Ron Paul would want to hold the release of his tax forms till later. Newt released them yesterday.
Ron's congressional filings are more detailed than tax forms. So why won't he release his tax forms?
Several people here have speculated here in the past that the ultimate plan is to have a Romney/Paul or Paul/Romney combo that will very likely beat Barak Obama. I believe that too.
Since both Mitt and Ron have been cordial to each other thus far, would you guys agree with my speculation that Paul is preparing an excuse for Mitt not to release his tax forms? Mitt will be able to say: "Well Ron Paul is not releasing his tax forms either!"

Why should he release them? As you said, his congressional filing is very detailed.

I do not believe that your speculation is close to the truth. As you said, the filings are very detailed and there he has no reason to release them. If it becomes an issue, I'm sure he'd release no problems.

Ron unlike all the others has to do congressional disclosures every year, so there is more info out there than you could get from his returns. I think his general thought is he likes his privacy. But if it becomes an issue I am sure he will release them. He was clearly taken by surprise last night. Have you SEEN his congressional filings? They tell you EVERYTHING. He has no debt on his house, he took out a personal loan to build the new one (he owned the land free and clear) and seems to be waiting until the old one sells to pay it off. That is his only debt. He owns both properties free and clear. So he hasn't so much as a mortgage deduction to take.

Here's my point, stated more specifically. Ron is just throwing a bone to Mitt and kinda helping him out. Mitt can say, I'm not the only one not releasing my tax forms. Go ask Ron Paul and leave me alone.
Ron could release them and I am 100% certain he's got nothing to hide. I just speculate that he's helping Mitt a bit here.

Here's a tip when you're wondering why Dr. Paul does something. Listen to his answer.

I don't think it has anything to do with Mitt, not one bit. He has no requirement or need to do it. It's private information. How much disclosure do you think he should do? Should he turn over the medical records and bills too? For Carol also? Where does it stop? Last thing he needs is every hater pouring through his records trying to find a flaw.

No, Ron was clearly just astounded that anyone was asking for them.

I think he sees it as a distraction. The message is what is important to Dr Paul
