NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Ron Paul supporters showed up early at Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach Friday; some even on all fours. They wore sweatshirts and buttons or carried signs for their candidate.
Bryon Sanford, 19, goes to college in Washington DC, but came home to Myrtle Beach this weekend to vote in the primary election. He said Paul strikes a cord with young people because the things the candidate wants for this country are the same most college students want as well.
"They don't want a draft, and they don't want to see their student loans be increased and higher taxes,” Sanford said before the rally. “They just want to return to the constitution, obeying the rule of law and bring our troops home."
However, most of the crowd at Paul's stop in North Myrtle Beach was older than the college students that normally populate Ron Paul rallies.
"It comes down to Americans wanting back their country; wanting back the principles that made us strong,” said Stacy DePinto, 50, from Little River. “[Americans] want us to be safe as far as our military is concerned; wanting our borders to be safe."
