It fascinates me. In some ways, I think the idea makes sense to the people of the NW (even the common person) in a way that others around the country may not understand.

I've been to many, many parts of the country, and the NW always feels like a section of the country with a very different, strong, and unified regional identity.

It is quite fascinating but seems pretty dangerous. I don't know much of anything about the NW culture but leaving the union to what looks like a very heavily socialist society at its founding seems like bad news. I wouldn't expect them to write a constitution that will maximize freedoms either. With their liberties sections they only mention ones that they think are necessary like speech, and religion which any good progressive would want, doesn't say a thing about arms. They also throw the word democracy around like its candy, nothing about a republic. They talk a lot about transparent, accountable government, didn't Obama say that? and pretty much every presidential candidate. It might start out that way but wouldn't you think someone gets power hungry?

Sure Seattle now houses great corporations such as starbucks and microsoft but would that really last with terms like "social justice" being thrown out there on their main site. However Starbucks and Microsoft do treat their employees very well for being large corporations. Looking at the Seattle police also, they seem to be among some of the worst offenders of civil liberties in america.

I think this movement for Cascadia would be better if they pushed for less powerful federal government like it should be, and try to get other states to go along with that. Much more plausible, and let the state government take all those special things that Cascadia is about and put it into the states governments of Washington and Oregon (Sorry BC talk to Canada).

Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like a wet dream.

I support any secessionist movement that moves us further from global empire.

Not in favor. Seattle and Portland are so full of holier than thou righteous enviro-nazis, it would be a cataclysm of biblical proportions on those of us rural folk around those concrete jungles.

LOL, I thought this was about the Cascadia fault line movement. :o

I am 100% in favor of this!!!. There is a similar movement with Northern California and Southern Oregon also, the Jefferson proposal.

Most people dont even know that there WAS a state of Jefferson just before WWII, but as soon as the war broke out it was co-opted for the war.

Why would anyone be against this? Who cares what the states do. Sounds like Big Govt mindset to me.

Secession is good. Micro-secession is better. I certainly wouldn't stick a gun in their face to make them stay, though I'm sure more than enough would.

So...they want a Socialist Republic? I know it doesn't say that but I live in this area "Social Justice" means "the government controlling your life and telling you what is best for everyone and then forcing you to do what is says is best." No thank you.

As a British Columbian, Im not interested in separating from Canada, however, if Washington and Oregon wanted to join Canada, you'd be warmly welcomed. I miss Washington since I gave up crossing the border due to the DHS Nazis. Would be awesome to feel free to travel there again.

What do the "DHS Nazis" actually do? + Do you need a passport for Canada > USA now?

Yes, you need a passport, but that is no big deal to me. I was using one anyway before that law came in.

The border, has of course, become increasingly tense since 911, and it was becoming more and more of a hassle with time, with more and more questioning, more and more paperwork being requested of me each time, including accusations of being an illegal alien, and all this just for a 30 minute visit to the neighbouring border town - something I had been doing for the past 25 years as a person who lives on the border. The final straw came for me when I had one border guard actually reach for his gun and keep and keep his hand on it while he screamed at me. I was outside where the car lineup is and about to make a call on my cell when one of the officers came out of his booth, screamed at me to put the phone down and ordered me inside into secondary inspection, all while having his hand on his gun. Once I went inside, he appeared to be making out some kind of incident report.

I'm not a terrorist and not about to detonate a bomb with my cell phone. Hell, I'm not even Arab. I was in the area where the car lineup is, where people in their cars make cell phone calls all the time. I guess he thought I could have been a terrorist about to blow up the building because I was on a bike and not in a car. I don't know, but I'm not going back to find out.

There's no way a secessionist movement will fly, but northwesterners should buy local for EVERTHING. It's a huge part of the culture and growing up here. The more we can voluntarily unplug from the wealth sucking multinationals, the better for workers and business in the local ecomony. so many people are enlightened to this up here, i can hardly believe that these chains support themselves, but apparently not enough people. the grocery stores are all about local farms, it's awesome. there are tvs in the store with nothing but interviews with local farmers that grow the product you can buy, there are also big color posters of the farmers and companies that make the things like cheese within 35 miles. We can make everything up here, from clothes to software to mead to credit unions. People should look into the local economy organizations and help them out, especially with your consumer dollars.
