Headline: Rick Santorum wins Iowa, Mitt Romney loses his inevitability.

So here we are, after weeks of Romney being the anointed one due to his "unprecedented" double wins in Iowa and New Hampshire. Over two weeks of "money, momentum and media" for Mitt Romney, effecting voting in New Hampshire, North Carolina and Florida (many people in Florida have already mailed in their ballots).

As one reporter said, this can not be undone. But a new narrative should come out of this: Romney is no longer inevitable. Romney did not have a "clean sweep". At least two weeks of solid reporting on the fact that Romney is not inevitable might make up for the two weeks of reporting an error.

Previous thread on this subject, talking about the significance of the Iowa error:

All across the media, especially on the television news channels, the significance of Mitt Romney winning both Iowa and New Hampshire is being touted and discussed. Many pundits and analysts are saying that the race is essentially over, as the candidate who wins both of these States is always the eventual nominee.
...
Meanwhile, the media narrative of the inevitable Romney nomination due to first place finishes in both Iowa and New Hampshire will continue, during the two week certification process, and possibly beyond.

Now it's a virtual tie. ;)

Santorum’s squeaker victory means that Romney can no longer claim to be the only non-incumbent GOP candidate since 1976 to win both the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary. Suddenly, a 42-vote shift was touted as something seismic.

“The narrative that Governor Romney and the media have been touting of ‘inevitability’ has been destroyed,” Santorum communications director Hogan Gidley said in a news release. “Conservatives can now see and believe they don’t have to settle for Romney, the Establishment’s moderate candidate.”

Romney, for his part, issued a statement calling the results “a virtual tie.”

It's indeed huge. Romney went from seven Iowa delegates to seven; Santorum from seven Iowa delegates to now seven!
