Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich is a “distinguished adviser” at a DC-based think tank behind the current campaign slandering rival candidate Ron Paul as a “racist” and “anti-Semite.”
Founded after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the neo-conservative Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) describes its focus as “national security and foreign policy” with a primary focus on terrorism. Among its many projects are promoting “regime change” in Syria, sanctions against Iran, and providing “accurate” reporting on the global war on terror. FDD has also received grants from the U.S. State Department.
The FDD has removed Gingrich’s name from their organizational charts, however letters he signed as an FDD “distinguished advisor” can be found dated 2007-2008.
Additionally, the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), which boasts of Gingrich as a “Former Senior Fellow” there, claims he is an “Advisory Board Member” at FDD.
AEI’s hosting of a recent Republican Presidential Debate raises further conflict of interest concerns, as Gingrich is a “Former Senior Fellow” and current “Scholar” at the organization.
The primary architect behind the slander campaign against Ron Paul is one James Kirchick, a “fellow” at the organization. Articles Kirchick have written, such as the “guilt by association” hit piece The Company Ron Paul Keeps, have been published by neo-con outlets like The Weekly Standard.
Another point of interest is that Kirchick is described by the FDD as, “a leading voice on American gay politics and international gay rights, he is a contributing writer to the Advocate, the nation’s largest gay publication. Mr Kirchick is a recipient of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association Journalist of the Year Award.”
“Either Kirchick is disingenuous about his concerns for promoting the homosexual cause, or Gingrich and his Neo-Conservative peers are disingenuous in opposing it,” notes blogger Chris in Maryville. “At the end of the day, it isn’t about sexual orientation, it is about the pandemic of exploitative deceit and hypocrisy that infests America’s political establishment.”
