I feel that the influence of Government should be inverse to it's coverage. Am I alone?

I wouldn't consider myself a libertarian. I do, however, sincerely believe that the US constitution is the rule of law and the best government document in history. I also feel that we should have a constitutionally limited federal government.

I don't however believe that as the scope of government gets smaller that these restrictions should apply. I think it is perfectly reasonable for city, county and state governments to act in a more "liberal" manner if they so choose. Isn't that the reason our nation is set up the way it is?

I would appreciate some feedback on this and would enjoy conversing with others on this topic.
