How huge is Tom Davis?

Named one of the top endorsements to get in SC. If we play it right, it could be huge with the Tea Party there.

Seriously tenth time this has been posted. People should really learn how to read the 5th, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd pages of the grassroots forum. Or just the first page....seriously.

I had no doubt who he was endorsing after he posted this on his Facebok.

"Tom Davis

I just enrolled in a course offered by the Mises Academy on Ludwig von Mises’ classic work, "Theory of Money & Credit." Attention will be focused on Mises' theory of value to money and development of (what we now call) Austrian business cycle theory. I highly recommend the academy's courses. I took one on Rothbard's "Man, Economy and State" last fall and loved it. "

It's good news but let's keep things in perspective, here. This helps, but I wouldn't call it game changing.

I didn't call it game-changing.
That's the title of Ron Paul's press release.
Ron Paul's PR team came up with that.

Keep one thing in mind: all press releases or communication coming from the campaign will always sound slightly exaggerated to us. The reason is that we are not the intended recipients, the media is!

I don't believe there is any other thread about Ron Paul's press release on this.
I know people have been talking about Davis's press release, but this is from Ron Paul's side now.
Seemed like a Ron Paul Press release merited a thread.

(I always search before I post to avoid redundant threads. I just searched again, this was the first thread talking about Ron Paul's press release.)

Enough with the infighting and bickering over details.

This. Is. HUGE.

This is something we have been waiting for, for a very long time. A prominent SC Senator endorsing our candidate in the heat of the state's primary! Big news! We should be celebrating and working even MORE diligently to ensure this counts as much as possible.

This is awesome. Even though there were clues, it is nice to see it in official writing, and will be really nice to see it happen live... I wonder if the major networks will carry it....

Davis won the general in '08 with 65% of the vote. He is very popular in his district and well known throughout the state. He is the former Chief of Staff for Gov Sanford, and the good news is that he left that position to go to the State Senate before Sanford's scandal. This is the type of guy that could easily do well for a state wide office be it Governor or US Senate.

In SC this endorsement is second only to getting an endorsement from DeMint or Haley. Haley, of course already endorsed Romney.

I Drudged this earlier this morning when I saw the headline at the campaign's site.

I am glad that many of your (the RPF members) suspicions turned out to be correct. It is a sign that we rule the internet...

It would be over the top if Demint showed up at the event too. :D

From the 2nd article posted by PauliticsPolitics:

"To get an endorsement from someone like Tom Davis is a big deal," said former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, who announced a White House bid in June. "It would speak volumes to folks and make them take notice and give us a look."

This quote will come in handy in case anyone tries to discount the importance. ;)

Hey even Santorum thinks it's a big deal:

"To get an endorsement from someone like Tom Davis is a big deal," said former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, who announced a White House bid in June. "It would speak volumes to folks and make them take notice and give us a look."

Good quote to use in case the endorsement is downplayed.

Hard to blame them. It's all news stories and BS posted on the grassroots forum that drives everything off the first page. Of course, I consider this a news story that shouldn't even be posted in grassroots.. has nothing to do with promoting paul on a grassroots level. Buy yah...

Call me a prude but I think 95% of all the endorsements that get hyped are meaningless. I've never made up my mind because someone told me to vote a certain way.

That is because you are awake; sadly most of the electorate is not, hence the signifigance. Endorsements aren't really meant to make a voters decision but rather add credibility to their positions & electability. People know Who Davis is && support him, the logical path is that if I support Davis & Davis supports Paul, then maybe, without knowing, I support paul, so I should at the least research him and find out.

I'm dumbfounded at the amount of people downplaying ANY endorsement, specifically this one. Kelly Clarkson got more excitement out of most here than this endorsement, I guess that is a sign that more sheeple are supporting Ron Paul.

This is second only to DeMint. Haley's popularity has plummeted. Since DeMint is not endorsing, we have got the top endorsement in all of South Carolina. And we have the soft support of DeMint himself, going out of his way to talk up Ron Paul every chance he gets.

Well, I hope there's South Carolina TEA PARTY signs and Revolutionary Garb in the crowds and near stage...

How about Bapists or Evangelicals for Ron Paul signs? and ensured it's caught on the media cameras too.

The reason these sorts of endorsements matter is about their distribution.

On the top level, the media is more likely to cover such an event, and having local media coverage of a national candidate is always a good goal. The press tends to be much friendlier, and it reaches people who are statistically more likely to be undecided.

On another level, the other great value of having local politicians behind you is they have their own contact and distribution lists. So, when you get an e-mail or call sent to voters who vote, which is who the State Senator will have collected, telling them Ron is the real deal, that's the sort of publicity you can't buy.

The circus is annoying, but endorsements matter because they get exposure. Not because they decide votes.
