Davis, former Governor Mark Sanford's former chief-of-staff, has been a vocal critic of government action and of economic development spending backed by other politicians of both parties.

“Senator Tom Davis’ fiscal conservative credentials are outstanding,” South Caroline GOP executive director Matt Moore told the leading state political website, FITSNews, recently. “Any candidate would do well to gain his endorsement.”

Indeed, he was courted by all the leading Republican campaigns.

i just hope ron paul does super well in the debates. he needs to practice and get advice from his advisors on how to answer potential questions. it needs to go perfect. he needs to nail down the iran issue once and for all and use that for all his debates. let's see if he can 1up the new hamshire debate. the MSM has been playing up South Carolina as THE ONE that picks the next GOP nominee/president... we need this! we need this to buffer our less than stellar position in Florida.

I'm guessing this was "leaked" intentionally. Lots of people have been letting him know we'd like to see it announced sooner rather than later, and that we'll have his back if there's any blowback. I'm sure he's planning to make it a personal endorsement at some event with RP, and this is a way to get voters thinking about it without taking away the "formal" announcement.

Clever and helpful move on his part. He should get an extra gold star for this.

I'm not, we should tell demint that he is the one that splitting the party in half by not endorsing anyone. It is he who will lose the GOP the election to obama. Romney supporters will grudgingly vote for paul against obama, but the reverse is not true even with a vp.

And now that Davis is going to endorse Paul, if he were to endorse, demint only has one choice.

DeMint may lose the election to Obama by not endorsing Paul.

Who do you want GOP? Paul or Obama?

This meme is fantastic. Any conservative politician who wants to be remotely feasible in coming elections MUST stand behind Ron Paul now or else be swept away as we clean house. Those who do will be rewarded with reelection, assuming their policy matches their endorsement.

Push it. That should be posted anywhere that discusses Tom Davis.

http://www.fitsnews.com/2011/08/27/sc-2012-courting-tom-davis/

Closer to home, though, it’s looking as though the endorsement of S.C. Sen. Tom Davis – who is widely-presumed to be Graham’s future U.S. Senate opponent in 2014 – is almost as coveted as the blessing of DeMint (and perhaps even more coveted than the blessing of Haley, whose approval ratings are in the toilet).

Earlier this week, the Hilton Head Island Packet did a story on the efforts being undertaken by several 2012 candidates to land Davis’ endorsement.

“That presidential candidates are courting Davis personally — treatment typically reserved for governors and Statehouse officers — is a measure of his growing influence among South Carolina conservatives,” the Packet noted.

The fact that someone like this would be willing to stick his neck out for Ron Paul could be a game-changer in South Carolina.

i'm just hoping they are not getting us to hype up how great it is to be endorsed by him so when it goes to the establishment candidate we all go "who cares" which tehy will do once it goes to Paul. They know they need us to stay in the rank and file and more importantly they know we are more ideologically pure.... meaning we don't tend to be "whoever gets him is a true conservative" and then when he goes a different way scream "sell out"... he'd be a big thing for us.... but if Ron could sit in the living room with every american and talk to them that would be the best.... i don't care about the surrogates... "Mike Frank · Works at Self Employed Entrepreneur
As the senior admin of Herman Cain Forums now that Herman has suspended his campaign our forum hereby endorses congressman Ron Paul for President 2012. You can view our full written endorsement on the www.hermancainforums.com home page."

EDIT: I looked at the dates of the posts and it appears this occured in December, OOPS guess I missed that one. Everyone is entitled to one Rick Perry moment. :D

Why is the speculation that he will support Dr Paul and not one of the other......clowns? Has he said anything or is there a history? Please tell me so I can jump up and down

He has been praising Paul for the past few days and if you look at what his facebook says: "In the next few days, I'm going to announce support for the one candidate in the race for president who has consistently stood for taxpayers- one who has a plan to balance the budget RIGHT NOW."

Notice the word consistent? Plus Paul is the only one with a real plan, so... It is him, celebrate.

lx43,

can we email other reps and hope to win them over?

Do you know any in particular that might be willing to endorse?

Jack Hunter should be flooding the media since he's from SC.

Mick Mulvaney might be a good choice he was against the Real ID while in the SC Senate, but he doesn't agree with RP FP.

Learn more about him on his website Senator Tom Davis: Individual liberty. Economic freedom. Future prosperity. (http://senatortomdavis.com/) :)

Check out @senatortomdavis on Twitter (http://twitter.com/senatortomdavis).

People are excited that it's Ron Paul he's leaning towards because of recent tweets and retweets like:

Cut the crony capitalism. Politicians aren't investment brokers. Government exists to protect individual liberty.

Yes. Paul's plan to drastically reduce the size of government and increase individual liberty should be embraced by the GOP.

RT: I think Ron Paul is the only candidate that actually fights for the American people.

It could be Santorum, but …

“The Tea Party energy here in South Carolina isn’t around social issues, it’s around the size of government and fiscal issues,” Davis told The Fiscal Times. “And the attacks on Rick Santorum, it seems to me, make it difficult for him to attract that vote.”

Couldn't be Mitt Romney:

I am not a fan of Mitt Romney's, but Newt Gingrich is way off base with this particular criticism.

Or I guess Gingrich for that matter.

I haven't heard anything about Rick Perry. Although he has taken kindly to Paul on some issues, he isn't exactly someone who's been advocating for sound money. Put another way:

"He [Rick Perry] doesn't speak in paragraphs, he barely speaks in sentences," said South Carolina state Sen. Tom Davis, one of the state's most prominent conservatives who is uncommitted in the presidential races.

The most telling clue? He retweeted:

RT @senatortomdavis: I just enrolled in a course offered by the Mises Academy on Ludwig von Mises’ classic work, "Theory of Money &... http://t.co/B6PS81AR

He doesn't just seem to be a supporter — he may be a true believer of Austrian ideas. I guess we'll find out soon enough … ;):D

The story leaked this morning. He's announcing Sunday supposedly. I wouldn't be surprised to see demint follow afterwards. Jack hunter did write a chapter in his most we book and he's been talking nicely about Paul lately. No guarantee, but a possibility.

Davis is pretty much confirmed, though, unless the article was bs.

Santorum has changed his rhetoric... in today's townhall in Duncan, SC, sounded like he stole almost every economic policy from Ron Paul. Big crowd for frothy, even sniped @ Ron without mentioning his name and associated him with Obama on cutting defense
