the title sums up the question.

And also I'm trying to find out what % of the GDP has been spent on the wars since 2001?

Rough estimate of % of GDP on wars.

Avg of $13 Trillion GDP over last decade. $4 Trillion on the wars themselves (not military spending in their entirety).

13x10 = 130
4/130 = about 3% of GDP

That is only the seen. What is unseen is that the money would have been spent elsewhere, potentially on infrastructure or tax breaks - things that have multipliers (ie. would benefit the economy's output potential for decades). Bombs don't have multipliers. They destroy capital, so their cost is greater than their cost to build, safeguard, transport and drop.

And it isn't just generals, either.

Retired Major General James "Spider" Marks said that he agreed with closing (some, no definite number of) US foreign military bases on CNN.
