Obama wants to ID internet users. DRUDGE MAIN HEADLINES!

This is potentially a BIG point if the campaign calls in a press conference today to denounce this along with SOPA.

Someone who is in touch with the campaign, please do this.

they've been working on that system for a long time. they had a fancy, less-intimidating name for it, but i can't remember. something about universal online identifiers. think of it as a gov't run OpenID. the (supposed) motive? three... two... one.... ding! you guessed it: fightin' the turrists. at least that was the reasoning given in the article i read. it seems it would be far more useful at tracking individual's use and making like hell for bloggers you disagree with, though.

remember when Obama was going to be the "tech president"? this isn't what i thought he meant by it.

When I read it, I thought this would supplement SOPA really well for them!! Censor it AND Track It!!

Would also kill software pirating I would think. The internet works just fine as it is. Why does government always have to meddle. It just infuriates me.

You're right, the government has been a model for transparency.
