For those who are interested, here's a good piece of objective reporting on the Ron Paul newsletter controversy.
http://www.fox19.com/story/16449477/reality-check-the-story-behind-the-ron-paul-newsletters

But the truth is, I wonder if anybody really cares one way or the other about that story. Given the major differences between Ron Paul and the rest of the field, it's hard for me to believe that little things like newsletters, earmarks, and chairing a commission that had democrats on it would make a difference to anyone.

If you support policing the world, then you won't support Ron Paul. I get that.
If you don't support policing the world, then Ron Paul is your only choice.

If you support foreign aid, then you won't support Ron Paul.
If you don't support it, he's your only choice.

If you think your support for Israel should be forced on you by the government, then you won't support Ron Paul.
If you think your support for Israel should be left up to you as an individual, then he's your only choice.

If you think the general welfare clause empowers the federal government to do whatever the politicians vote for, then you won't support Ron Paul.
If you think it only empowers them to exercise the powers specifically enumerated in the Constitution, then he's your only choice.

If you think the federal drug policies of the past 40 years have been pretty good, then you won't support Ron Paul.
If you think we were better off following the Constitution, then he's your only choice.

If you think the nation was doing just fine until 2008 when Obama came along and messed it all up, then you won't support Ron Paul.
If you think we have much deeper problems rooted in a century of progressivism, then he's your only choice.

If you think the federal budget should be about the size it is, except for a little bit of waste here and there, then you won't support Ron Paul.
If you think we are way past the point of needing to roll back spending on a massive scale, then he's your only choice.

Compare Ron Paul's record to Rick Santorum's. During the years the Republicans controlled Congress and the White House, the federal government grew astoundingly. If we pick out five pieces of legislation that were among the most to blame for that, they were No Child Left Behind, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the creation of Medicare part D, the Iraq War, and the $300 Billion transportation bill of 2005.

Perhaps some of you can think of some other good litmus tests from that period of time. But if we look at those 5, Rick Santorum voted for all 5 of them. That's as bad as supporting Obamacare. Only one Republican in all of Congress voted against all 5. Only one. And that was Ron Paul.

We have a choice to make. Do we keep doing the same thing we've done for the past 100 years and hope for different results? Or do we take this incredible opportunity to support Ron Paul now?

For Tea Party folks, start with the issues they espouse first. Then, you can lead them into the foreign policy stuff. I find they turn you off fast if you start with foreign policy. I do it like this:

"If you think the federal government managing the economy, health care, education, and the post office makes these things work better, then you must have a lot of faith in their ability to manage the Middle East to make us safer. Our Founders knew the government makes everything it touches worse and at a huge cost - that's why they wanted a limited government."
