What do you think, play it before after (or during the Iowa debate should he not attend)!

Ross Perot had a few infomercials. How effective were they for him?

The were very effective. 18.9% in a general election as an independent is a good showing.

I think it could be a good idea, assuming it didn't cost huge amounts of money and significantly drain the coffers. I suppose if they can afford to put one on to sell countertop rotisserie ovens, they should be affordable.
For better or worse, the media would start heavily associating Dr Paul with Ross Perot.

I'd say they are VERY effective at grabbing the apathetic no voting crowed and or those that need more then soundbites to make a decision with, yet are not on the net to do research. I never registered to vote or voted until I saw my first Perot Informercials at age 21
I loved hearing him get into detail on the issues and liked what he had to say. I've been a Green party voter ever since 1991 because of his infomercials.
They are great for Paul since he gets little speaking time in the debates on the major issues and his interviews are ussually quick and often, off topic from the issues. They keep asking him if he will run 3rd party, who his supporters are, will he support the repub nominee, and really get his insight on the issues during interviews.
I think infomercials for Paul are a great idea!

I think a Ron Paul infomercial selling his "reading assignment" of books would be absolutely amazing. Think about it, if they could pitch, Ron's book along with the other books and people actually ordered them, he would walk into the White House. "A Foreign Policy of Freedom", "Blowback", "Dying to Win", "Imperial Hubris", and the "9/11 Commission Report"...and label the Infomercial as something like "Why WAS America attacked and are we any safer today?"

I agree with the idea of an infomercial. I was concerned that it might make him look like a Perot or worse (Lerouche), but the thing is, in order for people to "get" Ron Paul, they have to hear him explain his positions. And if they keep him out of the debate (further marginalizing him) it is our only hope for getting the message out. My opinion, we can not allow him to be excluded from the debate - it will kill the campaign and take away any sense of him being a credible candidate in the minds of Americans.

I think an infomercial is a great idea - more time to hear the details of the message.

Yeah he should have one, as long as it isn't boring
It should explain the value of a dollar and all the things important

I think they should recreate Ronald Regan's Fireside Chats that he used to do - I definately think Ron Paul would come across as very presidential and common sense, and less fanatical than the press has made him out to be. Definately a new suit though!

How about a fund raiser for an infomercial where a meter shows just how many minutes of prime time television we can purchase? For example, our goal could be an hour of prime time television.

Grassroots production would be best without all the administrative baggage that an official effort would entail.
Someone pm me if it happens.

I think Ron Paul could use the airtime to calmly and confidently discuss his policies - rather then trying to get it all crammed into a one minute sound bite of time that leaves him high pitched and waving his arms in disgust and disbelief! Time for a new suit, something more Presidential, even if it is rented, with a nice silk tie, and big leather library chair, a photo of his wife and grandkids on the table beside him, and instead of trying to out shout the three blind mice of Mitt, Rudy, and whatzisname, he can calmly speak openly and directly to the American People. I have seen him speak when he wasn't sitting on the Hot Seat so to speak and he truly is a delightful man with a great sense of humor. All most folks have seen though is an angry man waving his arms around and then the MSM calling him a fruitcake!
Something of this nature would work favorably:

Someone must take this idea seriously and run with it.
1) Ron Paul's ideas take time to explain and digest, 60 second TV spots are not useful here.
2) Infomercials can be seen by anyone with a TV.
3) It can include testimonials of people like you, with a great story to tell.
4) It can reach the people that currently know only about the candidates through MSM.
5) An infomercial can ask for contributions on the spot, making it easy to measure its effectiveness, and also help to make it pay for itself.
6) People can donate via telephone (which would reach a larger amount of people than the internet)
