Romney, Santorum & Paul will all get 7 delegates each.

All projections. We can still end up with the lion's share of delegates by making sure our people get through the county, district and state conventions.

I thought delegates aren't awarded until June at the Iowa convention. No delegates are awarded based on the caucus.

Thats not correct there were 25 delegates in Iowa not 21 unless Newt got the rest.

Delegates are non-binding. Mitt and Rick's awarded slots don't necessarily have to be supporters of theirs.

If, as reports suggest, our people stuck around to the end in order to become delegates, Ron could have more than the seven he was awarded.

Gingrich got 2, Perry got 2.

The delegates chosen last night go to county convention in April where they choose delegates to the state convention held in June. If we have a large majority of delegates there in June at the Iowa state convention we could not only get the 7 pledged delegates but also shares of Mitt and Ricks as well as some super delegates. Iowas total is 40 with the super delegates included.

We have to win some states, and have Santorum end up dropping out, so we have reason to get them to join us to stop Romney.

Santorum did what Huck did in 2008. Didn't have money ...but had time to go to every county in Iowa...and Faux News stealthily backed him. Now that the races will be coming weekly, Frothy won't have time or money to blitz each county in each state. Here's where the money and organization counts.

What will happen to Sanitarium's delegates when he drops out?

Excellent question.

Hopefully they will be closet/stealth RP supporters. ;)

What will happen to Sanitarium's delegates when he drops out? They can negotiate with other candidates... but most likely go to Romney with the insider deals and manipulating behind the scenes.

I guess he will instruct them to vote for romney, unless the rules say if a candidate drops out delegates are free to vote for whoever.

I was elected as a delegate, and the other for our precinct is a Paul supporter as well. Everyone left, we stuck around like the campaign asked us to. :)

Good job! We just need everyone to step up - with out hardcore support and commitment level, we just need the numbers which we didn't have in 2007/2008. Sometimes it is as easy as just showing up (or in this case, staying behind!)

From what I'm reading the delegates are non-binding. This was essentially a straw vote. All or none of the delegates could goto Paul.

Yup, you just have to hope that the Paul guys can hold their own....maybe even bring some other delegates over to our side.

What happens to Perry and Newt's delegates after they drop out? Do they go to whomever they endorse?

I'm pretty sure Santorum's folks won't have stuck it, but I hope Ron's did. I just don't know. I've heard different reports from different counties. You KNOW Romney's establishment folks were playing the drill. But in the end after Santorum drops out, I think we can pick up a lot of his share, so long as we have the bodies in the game.

No, the physical people who are standing as delegates decide where they go. Do they go to pro life Ron? Or to sometimes I defend a women's right to choose, sometimes I don't, Romney? That is how we got Nevada when McCain was a bridge too far for Romney's delegates. (Mind you the party shut down the state convention rather than letting the vote continue so Ron could get his delegates, then appointed them by conference call, essentially throwing out the entire primary process.) Nevada now changed its' rules to bind delegates until national convention, but Iowa hasn't.

On the other hand, if our folks don't participate in large enough numbers at every stage to vote Ron's delegates up to the next stage, we could lose them, as well. The tie is an estimate in both directions.

What happened in Nevada was a travesty - you can do a search for some Tubes on it. But a good learning experience. Plus this time we have more numbers and more experience. Can you imagine if we have a majority in most of the state conventions? Can they railroad every convention and that many people?

God I hope we win Nevada. I just want at least one state in that ugly pink color on CNNs national map.
