On to New Hampshire. I just wonder if the campaign is going to contest the South or try and get a head start out west. Either way I'm on board. We may not win but we are going to get as many delegates as possible, make a statement and set the groundwork for victories in congress and future elections!

How you figure this out.

No way of knowing that. I personally hope we have more ;) Only way we'll know that is when the State Convention sends delegates to the National convention. Until then no one has won any delegates. We might end up with a lot more ;)

The work in Iowa is NOT done. Everyone who was elected delegate from this must network together to win in the State Convention!

Gentlemen,

We gained 4 delegates tonight.

The delegate count is now:

Romney +6
Santorum +6
Dr Paul +4

Actually this is just an approximation. These delegates are not yet determined and the total could be more based on the number of people we had stay behind to go to their county conventions.

I thought it was an even 6 for the top 3?

Didn't Paul get 12 delegates in 2008? He's already a third of the way to his 2008 total?

There is no way of knowing right now. Those are projections.

Ron got 39 in 2008. Not counting the ones stolen from him in Nevada.

The OP is totally wrong.
All delegates are unpledged and aren't really chosen till much later in the process (months away).
If the unpledged delegates are split by the vote, it is PROJECTED as 6 each for Romney, Santorum, and Paul:

Many sold out to "help with the party", don't think they'll be doing it this time. But I wouldn't put it past people.

Many are not as good as RP himself, which is standard.

Lot of bouncing around on this thread. Yes...we should get 4 to 6 pledged delegates by June in Iowa ...and then there are other unfledged of the remaining 15 which include super delegates etc. All of this could turn our way in June should we do well through other states. This is only the first state and with the proportional delegate rules now the national convention has a big chance of being brokered.

Did I seriously just get negative repped for providing a more accurate view of the picture?

February 24, 2012 Deadline for designation of Presidential Plan

The OP is wrong. The delegates are based on who stuck around after the vote. In 2008 we got DOUBLE our projected delegates because Paul supporters were more dedicated. If we double our projection of 5 delegates this year...we should get around 10 delegates at the convention. We could get more depending on how organized we were.

You need to be willing to do it. the Ron Paul supporters will vote you up, you would be a big somebody to US!!

If you did, I added some rep just in case.

Because you are absolutely right. NO delegates have been chosen in Iowa. None. The process there works much like in Minnesota - where I live, and have BEEN a delegate - and it will take months to sort out.

My feeling is Ron Paul will come out of Iowa with FAR more than "4 or 6" delegates.

No, you got it for nit picking.

"The house is 1 mile away"
"No, it is 5000 feet"

When it is TOTALLY UNKNOWN how many delegates for each candidate will emerge from the Iowa caucuses, the post is not nitpicking AT ALL.

"The sun is 4,000 miles away."
Um, no, it's not.

Texas has a "secret" delegate selection caucus after the voting as well :D I was a delegate last time around to the county convention, and then got passed to state but was an alternate, not needed :(

The Greenpapers will likely have the most accurate, least biased estimated delegate count throughout this process.

http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P12/IA-R

They're showing 6, 6 and 6 for Romney, Santorum and Paul.

One of my co-bloggers spoke at an Iowa Jr HIgh last night.

P (http://redstateeclectic.typepad.com/redstate_commentary/2012/01/speaking-on-behalf-of-ron-paul.html)robably not worth spamming on it's own, but he made an interesting comment:

Where I was, the delegate process was quite simple. If you were interested in being a delegate to go to the county convention, you would just fill out a form. Most of the people I saw who became delegates were Romney or Paul supporters. The Santorum crowd, I believe, just wanted to vote for not-Romney not-Paul, and didn't seem that involved in the political process.
