I received this note from a friend and wanted to pass it on.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone,

We need to help the campaign perform a $10 Donation Server STRESS TEST on November 11th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM eastern time.

Everyone needs to give just Ten Dollars on November 11th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM eastern time.

This server test has three purposes:

#1 To give RON PAUL the greatest number of small donations in a single hour (and thus more free media coverage).

#2 To lend an additional boost to the www.ThisNovember11th.com (http://www.ThisNovember11th.com) Veteran's Day fundraiser.

#3 To STRESS TEST the RON PAUL 2008 donation server leading up to the BOSTON TEA PARTY on December 16th -- http://www.teaparty07.com/.

Please schedule this $10 Dollar Donation event in your individual meetup groups.

The e-Campaign Director, Justine Lam, is aware of and supportive of this initative and has said that "Yes, I think we could handle it".

Now it is up to us to perform the $10 test to find out.

At least 10 dollars, maybe more if you can.

Good idea, also since no one is mentioning or really pushing this Nov 11th like we did the 5th. I like it

jake

sure, good idea, but this really needs to be pushed to get the server load higher than it was on the 5th.

good testing for the Tea Party, Dec 16th if you can pull it off :)

And what was Nov 5th? Im sure that the 31,000 donations and probably some odd 200,000 viewers where enough stress on the system. Either way, it still gets people to donate a little. Sooo...whatever it takes I guess.

How much are the credit card fees that he has to pay? A dollar? 50 cents? Donating money is always good, but innundating the website with thousands of small donations is a bad idea, because it costs the campaign money to process your donations.

kylejack
11-09-2007, 01:45 PM
I will send multiple $10 donations plus a few bucks to cover the additional transaction costs I create.

Pete Kay
11-09-2007, 02:02 PM
I just researched credit card fees and the amount charged is only 1.89 percent plus a 10 cent flat fee for each transaction. So for a 10 dollar donation thats just about 22 cents. I guess that's not too bad of a hit for each donation if my math is right.

Pete
11-09-2007, 02:04 PM
I hope this message is going out to everybody who donated on the 5th.

Great idea, and could be news all by itself. :)

This is a great thing to do, but I can tell you that the servers are not up to handling the donations. My $1000 donation did not go through tn5, my second $100 donation did not go through. and I know of several others whose donations did not go through. We are re-donating on tea party day, but I wonder how many other donations never made it.

While Nov 5th was a good stress of the system, I think they're trying to find out the faults of the system with a small money bomb with max donors. Sure the servers handled 38000 people in 24 hours, but what will happen when there are 20000 donors in just one hour. Noone knows, so we'll find out. If there's a problem, the campaign as well as the grassroots people will need to fix it over the next month. Don't need to fix it the day of the tea party.

Yes, I checked the balance. It was a debit/credit card and it did not go through. I am not the only one. In fact, several other people mentioned the same thing on this forum. These are people in addition to the 3 that I know locally and personally.

This is a BRILLIANT idea!

What would it say to the media if with only 2 days notice we made this go VIRAL and accumulated a record number of unique donors and new donors in a 1 hour period? A new different record less than a week after the Nov. 5th acheivement!

In this case the number of donors is even more important than the money.

Here's the opportunity: Call all your friends and family, especially if they haven't yet donated, and ask them to make only the small donation required to become part of the fun record attempt. Make sure they know where to go and when. And Donate yourself!

Participating in a political campaign is a bit like a chemical reaction: there is a certain activation energy that needs to be surpassed before the reaction initiates...and then even more energy is given back! Once a contributor makes that first donation, he becomes personally involved and invested in the campaign and will send future contributions more readily.

We can readily accomplish this, because the donation amount is relatively small and within reach of supporters who are tapped out from last week.

Also bear in mind that purchases of campaign materials, which could support the December 15th outreach efforts, made at the official campaign store, count as donations. Get those materials now to avoid out-of-stock situation or shipping delay.

****FORUM MODERATOR: Would it be feasible to make this thread a sticky?

****MEETUP ORGANIZERS: Is there a way to get this message to all meetup organizers and all meetup members?

I LOVE this idea! I suggested something similar a few days back, but whoever came up with this is a GENIUS! Imagine, planting a measurable mini-bomb right in the middle of an ongoing money bomb. Nobody likes a show off, but who gives a shit, 'cause nobody likes us anyway. Donate twice if you can afford it, once before 7pm, and once more between 7 and 8 pm.

Josh, are we really testing here (I think its important to do) Or is this just an ad on?

I have no problem with either, bump to the Nov 11th fund and test the servers but if we are REALLY trying to test for the tea party.....dont you think more people should be involved?

If this test is posted elsewhere, disregard. Just curious, we are only looking at 1 hour to do this.....

What is the cost to the campain of multiple $10 donatons?

1) Credit card surcharges?
2) Man hours required to verify each donation, and file necessary FEC regulation-required paperwork?

Just curious if the campaign has endorsed this stress test and the costs associated.

perhaps TeaParty07 should assign donation times according to alphabet?

I think if you compare today's donor data to the 5th's donor data, it appears that there were more donors per hour between 11:00 pm and 11:59 pm on the 5th.

Indeed. I just did a quick average on 38,000 doners divided by 24 hours.

The final hour on the 5th looks like it had about 3,200 doners. Thanks for sharing that grapgh.
