I'd sign the pledge under the name, Eat My Shorts. Or Daffy Duck. Or something.

Kondik points out that the oath, however, is not enforceable from a legal standpoint, since voters are guaranteed the right to a private ballot.

The oath, which reads “I, the undersigned, pledge that I intend to support the nominee of the Republican party for president,” is intended to deter non-Republicans from participating in the process unless they are serious about supporting the eventual GOP candidate.

An oath, not to the Constitution, but to the GOP.

It only shows you how the republican establishment thinks: You serve US!

This news is a few days old, but let's think about this philosophy for a second.

What's the point of voting if the voters are told to sign an "oath" to vote for someone? Why doesn't the GOP get to the point and do what they really want to do which is to steal every registered Republicans vote for the person of the GOPs choosing? I thought Democracy was bad, but this is Fascism.

All I know is that it will officially disqualify Grinch from voting.

They're only trying to deny a Ron Paul victory. Most Ron Paul supporters are too principled and honorable to vote for any of the other GOP candidates. We're also unlikely to sign pledges to the contrary, even if nobody ever knew whether or not we violated our oath.

I agree with Feeding the Abscess, though. I'd sign it under a false name, just to get into the primary :)

I would say to RP Voters in the Va Primary- it is A-OK to deceive criminals and terrorists such as the crowd running the GOP out there when the goal is upholding the Constitution. Do what ya gotta do to carry RP to victory.

Been that way, off and on, for 150 years or so.

An oath or contract that is coerced need not be honored.

An oath or contract that is coerced need not be honored.

Oaths are anti-Christian:

Matthew 5:33- 37
King James Version (KJV)
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou
shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's
throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the
city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one
hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is
more than these cometh of evil.

Does the Republican Party really want to become known as the anti-Christian party?

At the rate they're going, I believe so.

I would sign the oath just to vote and then not honor the oath. It's not enforceable, and the whole thing is just ridiculous anyway.

Seems like there's a lot of loopholes behind that pledge. I mean you can intend to support the nominee but what if a better candidate comes up, nothing stops you from changing your mind.

A synonym to intend is contemplate. So you can think about voting for the nominee.

I intended to vote for the nominee but then they elected _________

Since Ron Paul is going to be the nominee, the more people who sign the oath the better I guess. lol.

I'll be voting no matter what, but still haven't decided what to do about this pledge... Maybe they'll allow clarifying statements? =P

But yeah just a slap in the face to Paul supporters is all it is.

Technically you can vote NOBP and still keep the oath. We INTEND Paul to be the nominee, and we INTEND to vote for Paul AS the nominee. Thus, oath kept. If Paul is NOT the nominee, then the conditions for my intention have not been met. The oath does not state unconditionality, therefore oath not broken.
