I don't know if there is a correct forum for tech questions, so I figured I'd ask this here in Grassroots. How are you computer saavy people capturing and using .flv files from sites like Youtube and Google video? I've seen lots of recommendations on-line, but I feel like I can trust the people in this forum for good information.

I've recently gotten into making videos of Ron Paul and campaign-related issues, and I'd like to be able to get video off the above websites so I can work with it in Sony Vegas (which doesn't support .flv AFAIK). Any help would be appreciated.

Sites like http://keepvid.com and FLV-to-AVI/MPEG converters (desktop software or online like http://del.icio.us/tag/flv+converter)

Yeah there are a million sites like this. If you type in rip youtube vids in google, pretty much all of them will work. you just need to rename the file you are downloading to whatever.flv

Don't know what is the best, because I just went through this process myself.

I use 2 things for grabbing youtube videos and the like:

1 - Firefox Browser plugin called "DownloadHelper". (assuming you use firefox it makes downloading the .flv from youtube easy.

2 - For conversions I use something I ended up paying for because none of the free stuff worked for me and I got impatient. I use "Blaze Media Pro" for all conversions and for grabbing specific clips. It's pretty intuitive and easy to use. It was 50 bucks, but you get a full 15 day trial to try it out.

Also, I found that the best format to save things in for uploading is XviD Mpeg4 Codec for video and regular old mp3 for audio. To do this you need to download a codec pack as well. The one I have is called "K-lite Codec Pack", but there are several out there.

Just search for these things and you'll find them. I'm willing to bet others have more straightforward methods, but this seems to work for me. I'm no expert.
:-)

Enjoy

orbit (http://www.orbitdownloader.com), it's free and works well with flashgot (http://flashgot.net/) too.

I've used FLV2iTunes (http://www.kurniadi.org/flv2itunes/) without any difficulty; it is just drag-and-drop and you can choose what format you want.

If you have firefox, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK8lMqrcc0E

If you use IE, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKsKY6Gmc3M

1:30 in on both of them.

Thanks for the help guys! I'm using Orbit to download the flv files and Moyea FLV to Video to convert the files. Now I can import all this stuff into Sony Vegas and start making some sweet Ron Paul videos.

my question is where are the original high quality videos?
I would like to make a DVD in this order like my website videos.

http://ronpaulstreetteam.com/video.html

someone anyone high quality videos of these???
I would be passing out free DVDs daily if I had this source.

I guarantee my site is a Ron Paul converter now if only I could bring it to the streets instead of just handing out business cards and free stickers.

I was thinking about this. I mean most people that have video upload it to youtube or elsewhere and are probably on this site. Can't we have a Ron Paul torrents website or something?! I think that if we had a torrents network, we'd have max bandwidth just because most Ron Paul supporters that want to spread the word wouldn't mind seeding and allowing a high bandwidth for the upload.

Just a thought.

Anyone have any comments on that? I have a basic understanding of torrents
