View Full Version : Liberty Forest

Bryan and I have discussed the continuation of this community after the election regardless of outcome.

It is named Liberty Forest, (LibertyForest.com). Named after the Liberty Tree, a famous elm tree that stood near the commons of Boston, Massachusetts Colony, in the days before the American Revolution. The tree was a rallying point for the growing resistance to the rule of England over the American colonies. In the years that followed, almost every American town had its own Liberty Tree—a living symbol of popular support for individual liberty and resistance to tyranny. We are the Liberty Forest so to speak, as the internet is one large meeting place.

We have started adding forums at the bottom of the main page. (Link) (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=189) We plan on making it a portal for liberty and a continuation of this freedom loving community. RedState, Politico, Little Green Footballs, Michelle Malkin, Real Clear Politics, etc.. are going to be dieing slow deaths with this internet movement and we plan on providing a place for their visitors to go.

Let us know if you have anything in mind.

Sounds great, Josh. I suggest adding blogs and featured media, sort of like TownHall.

And I hope you rake in some serious shekels with it. :)

It will have blogs and news stories. Just a great grassroot portal. ;)

One of the guys from google talked about turning a grass fire into a grass inferno. Hopefully we can figure that out, we're not doing too bad here.

I do not want to sound silly but I really miss the word "revolution". The word "revolution" has been like the fuel for which many people use to keep going, and it connected very well because it explains the degree of change that this movement can bring. Freedom/liberty is part of the revolution but it is not everything. The name "liberty forest" (with all respect to the meaning and the historical event) does/cannot reach the level of heat which "the revolution" brings. It maybe sounds too romantic to me. That is just an opinion and I hope you will take it into consideration. Goodluck!

I like it.

Words to the title song of the 1957 Disney movie - Johnny Tremain and the Sons of Liberty:

Plant the seed in our homeland, boys. Let it grow where all can see.
Feed it with our devotion, boys. Call it the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

Save it from the storm, boys. Water down its roots with tea.
And the sun will always shine on the ole’ Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

March along with the piper, boys. We were born forever free.
Let’s go pay the piper, boys, beneath the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

Pay the price they’re asking, boys. Always pay the tyrant’s fee.
Never give up the struggle, boys. Fight for the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

Stand for the rights of man, boys. Stand against all tyranny.
Hang the lamps of freedom, boys, high on the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

N’ it will grow as we grow, boys. It will be as strong as we.
We must cling to our faith, boys- faith in the Liberty Tree.

It’s a tall old Tree
And a strong old Tree
And we are the Sons
Yes, we are the Sons
The Sons of Liberty.

WE need need to preserve this priceless coalition.
WE cannot be dependent on a corrupt and/or inept central campaign organization.
WE must find and solidify the core values that make us Ron Paul supporters.

We must be able to recognize each other.
The greatest gift Ron Paul gave us was himself; as a symbol/icon/seed crystal around which our movement could grow. For now I am content with his name and his endorsement as a guide. But to keep him safe we need to evolve beyond our dependence on Ron Paul as the only cohesive force or symbol for our movement.
We do not need to eliminate him (I personally hope that 50 years from now people will be able to recognize his name and know what he stood for) but we do need to diversify.
Doing that without fragmenting will be the key.

I hope not. Domain names aren't that expensive, and letting it lapse would just open the door for spoofing and other asshattery by other campaigns at Ron Paul's expense.

My only question is have you incorporated? I'd love to see this become the next "townhall" or "DailyKos". We have a lot of talent here, and some money. We can get the website on the radio or buy radio stations or newspapers ourselves. If you think I'm out there, or if you think I'm thinking too big you're wrong. If you incorporate we can go public, if you don't go public we can go with private investments, we can get big.

That's what needs to be done.

I love Liberty Forest as a name. What would a Liberty Tree look like? We can make a banner of Liberty trees.
I am a visual person and the notion has sent me into a kind of archetypal forest filled with all sorts of wierd and wonderful critters...usually benevolent.

I don't think theres any doubt that we will become a formidable force, and I think very quickly we will achieve a status on par with that of MoveOn.org and MediaMatters (although I hate to use them as an example).

Give it a few more years, and I have no doubt
that we'll all be seeing real changes in Washington.

Liberty forest- sounds great! count me in! Great way to keep the movement alive and intact.
Whatever becomes of RPs run, the members of the revolution have made their voice heard.
We are a force to be reckoned with, a growing segment of the population who will not be denied our say. Look at the noise we made in such a short time together and imagine our strength and influence if we continue to grow and spread the RP platform for the next four years. Imagine.....

I have been trying to come up with the best way of extending the Ron Paul movement beyond this election and Ron Paul himself without losing the precious momentum and unity that he has created.
Thank goodness we do not have to reinvent the wheel!

We have all become painfully aware of the powers that oppose freedom in this country and throughout the world.
Now we need to talk about the long term solutions.

The combination of Freedom Force International and the newly awakened patriots of America are a synergistic match made in heaven:

http://www.silverbearcafe.com/private/1.08/idea.html

or on YouTube:

Here's some ideas:
Keep the site clean and simple
-like facebook, politico

Enable users to upload their own liberty videos, articles, images
-like digg, youtube

Enable users to rate posted items
-like digg, reddit

Best rated items are put on front page

*I would really hope that the site is launched before the 2008 republican caucus. Otherwise I fear the site might not get enough notice. And people will move on with their lives. And the revolution would die.

I will definately be a member and supporter if the site is well put together like Ronpaulforums.com. Us liberty members need a way too communicate to keep Mr.freedom alive in this world.

Just some random ideas for the future of the site.

Offer methods to contact elected officials (like Downsize DC)
Offer grassroots organizational tools (like meetup)
Offer nationwide canvassing tools (like voters.ronpaul2008.com: walking lists, phone scripts, etc)

I think it would be great if it could be a sort of "open source" development so us programmers in the audience could pitch in to make the site great.
