Four Republican presidential candidates – Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Ron Paul -- submitted paper work in time to qualify for Virginia's March 6 primary ballot.

No other GOP contender will be on the Virginia ballot. Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Sen. Rick Santorum and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman did not submit signatures with Virginia's State Board of Elections by today's 5 p.m. deadline.

Those who submitted the required signatures must clear another hurdle. The Republican Party of Virginia has until Tuesday to certify which candidates qualify.

Romney was the first Republican presidential candidate to file his petitions. His Virginia campaign chairman, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, delivered them on Tuesday. President Barack Obama's re-election campaign filed earlier this month.

The State Board of Elections will turn over the petitions to the respective political parties for validating. Republican will begin the process Friday morning and have sought volunteers to help with the process.

Candidates must submit the signatures of at least 10,000 registered voters, with 400 from each of the 11 Congressional districts.

Romney submitted 16,026 signatures; Paul 14,361; Perry 11,911 and Gingrich 11,050.

The state GOP decided that candidates who submit at least 15,000 signatures of registered voters on valid petitions with at least 600 signatures from each of the 11 districts will be deemed to have met the qualifications.

The parties have until Tuesday at 5 p.m. to tell the State Board of Elections which candidates qualify for the March 6 primary ballot. The order of names will be decided by lottery on Wednesday.

Aside from Romney and Paul no other candidate has anything approaching a national campaign, just free MSM coverage which gets them poll numbers.

That's why they can't even get on the ballot, no one in those States is working for them.

Of course Ron Paul is running a national campaign, as is Romney. All the media hype for the other candidates can't change this simple fact.

We just need to keep donating to keep Ron Paul's campaign solvent, and hopefully after Iowa/New Hampshire we will get a large influx of new supporters which will carry Ron Paul through the rest of the primaries.

O.K.
I can be fairly stupid sometimes.....it sounds like Ron Paul came up short on the number signatures that the GOP requires?

Only 10k signatures are required. If a campaign submits more than 15k, they will only spot check some signatures. If they do not submit 15k, they will do a thorough check to make sure there are 10k valid signatures.

If you can't even get enough people to sign for you to get on a ballot, how in the world would you possibly win that state in a general much less a primary?

Excellent point. And Gingrich had to scramble last minute for the signatures. Possibly a pitfall of the media's hubristic thinking that they can control elections.

Read the comments on that article. Someone said:

"Candidates must submit the signatures of at least 10,000 registered voters, with 400 from each of the 11 Congressional districts.

Romney submitted 16,026 signatures; Paul 14,361; Perry 11,911 and Gingrich 11,050.

So can we take a guess now that the states GOP will pull some crap and by this that Romney will be the only one "to have met the qualifications".

Is this commenter correct? Are they trying to rig this thing for Romney? Can Ron Paul win the nom without VA?

It wouldnt matter. If Ron Paul submitted 16,024 signatures, they would state...

"The state GOP decided that candidates who submit at least 16,025 signatures of registered voters on valid petitions with at least 600 signatures from each of the 11 districts will be deemed to have met the qualifications."

Its all a game to them.

No, the state GOP already said Paul is certified and on the ballot, as is Romney. they disqualified Perry and are reviewing the grinches signatures.

there is probably a process where anyone can challenge a candidates signatures (Obama did that to be elected unopposed to the Illinois state senate)

Gingrich, Perry to Miss Virginia Ballot
POLITICSDECEMBER 24, 2011, 7:54 A.M. ET

"The Gingrich and Perry campaigns each filed more than 11,000 signatures Thursday to meet the 10,000-signature requirement, but the party ruled late Friday, after working to verify the petitions, that not enough of the signatures were valid.

The ruling leaves only two candidates on the Virginia ballot: Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. The campaigns of Jon Huntsman, Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum did not submit any petitions to get on the state's ballot."
