Whether you agree with President Bush or not.. and irrespective of how much is spent on war...

This is what Ron Paul will likely do and this is how Congress will likely respond.

President Paul will explain his position publicly and call his legion of supporters into action to bombard their representatives with opposition. He will support candidates to oppose them in any problematic district.

Bush no longer has the mandate or political power of the "people"

compromise is a two way street :D

However, except for the pork, these "projects" were much more worthy than this continued empire of war.

If RP is elected he'll be an extremely popular president for a lot of reasons. This alone will have an effect on the Congress and Senate. If they want to be re-elected they will do what he says :)

The fact that Ron gets the office of President changes things massively.

Exactly. It has taken 7 years for this to happen. Bush is just a lame duck president nowadays

If RP is elected by a landslide (and I believe that if he gets the GOP nomination, that's what will happen), Congress will not routinely overturn vetos.

Another tactic that RP could use is to request that SCOTUS review legislation for Constitutionality.

The question then is this: how will the people respond?

We're not going to go away when Dr. Paul wins the Whitehouse. This is about reclaiming our country, not claiming our country for a single politician.

Dr. Paul will get nothing accomplished alone. We're the muscle behind the movement.

When we get RP into the white house it will be because this engine we have is about 100 times stronger than it is now. At that time we turn our attention away from getting RP elected and toward destroying the career of every legislator who ignores the Constitution. How hard can it be? Just follow the money and follow the penis.

They've already made a pretty good start without our help. The vast majority of these people are so corrupt it would make Bluebeard blush. We go after them with a vengeance and let them know the only way to save themselves is to start obeying the Constitution and nullifying unconstitutional laws.

Personally I think we should start now, but we do have a president to elect.

Let them try to override his blanket pardon of the class of people known as "tax evaders". Or his stand down from the Middle East.

Don't forget his blanket pardon of the tens of thousands of people in prison for smoking pot. I think they are all complete morons, but they don't deserve to be in prison for it. Stupidity is not a crime. (Although I have met some people... well, never mind.)

There's a big difference though. Bush is sitting on basement approval ratings. If Ron Paul were to win the Presidency it would signal a mandate for his views and Congress could not afford ignore his political capital.

I'm not saying they'd jump in line by any means, but they would have to account for it.

Sad but true.

President Paul would basically be gridlocked by both congress and the senate. He would spend all his time vetoing at record levels.

If RP is elected president, most members of the Federal government are going to jump out of a high window.

The ones who don't jump will be loudly asserting that they agreed with RP from the beginning, and they certainly won't be doing much veto overriding.

We, The People, will need to ride Congress every step of the way to make sure they vote to what We, The People, want. Flood them will calls, emails, and news articles to do the right thing.
