This seems like the kind of thing that people would want to do, and could do. It's the most bang for the buck. You're there for one reason, to accomplish one basic objective, to deliver a good speech to win votes. And I can see how that would work. They can also report the results to local media and to other places.

I am going out as part of the Christmas with Ron Paul, I wonder if they will be having the 250 students doing this

I really don't know. I think this should be a sticky though? Or the other one. If making this speech is something you want to do, you might prepare for that possibility. It seems that however many Christmas Vacationers are there, that there is something for them to do. However, do you know where you're staying yet? It's possible that they're using the volunteers for something other than that. I have no idea.
