View Full Version : Grassroots Central getting too crowded!??
I don't know about you guys, but Grassroots Central is getting WAY too crowded for my tastes.
I mean, it's not twenty or thirty minutes before a topic is off the first page!
The busier the forum gets, maybe there needs to be a way to better split the posts up?
YES, I KNOW THIS IS A FORUM FEEDBACK TYPE THREAD. But I'm curious what other members think.

It's cluttered because so many people are posting topics not meant for this sub-forum.... like, um....... ..... Well, I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Lots of activity equals lots of threads,
Solution: split into two or more forums (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?340467-Can-the-Grassroots-forum-to-be-split-into-two-or-more-forums)

Why not post all interviews, tv segments, and polls in Media Spin? Perhaps rename to media?

I strongly agree.
We already have "Media Spin" for bad media, but now we also need something like "Fair Media" for good or balanced press, debate highlights, interview tubes, etc.
We already have the "Fundraising" subforum, but nobody uses it because all the threads are in Grassroots! We have to make a concerted effort to get relevant threads started and/or moved there.
We need a straight up "Polls and Data" subforum, for a few purposes: to post and discuss all the state and national polls (ie. PPP, Gallup, etc.); to post and discuss online polls for us to vote in, and to discuss Intrade or other such statistical analysis.
More posts need to be started or moved to the "Vent" subforum, the perfect place to complain about things. I feel the biggest problem right now is that we really only have one forum (Grassroots) and all the other subforums are under utilized. Hence, people don't check out the other subforums because there is not a whole lot there.
If we really want to prepare for expansion, we need to get our forum organized.

How about mandatory moderation of thread starters for this forum? I know that's "prior restraint" but that is trumped by private property!

I'm a pretty new poster, but I think these are all really great ideas.

You have to consider a lot of people just want a one stop shop for all the current events, and that's why it would be nice to have one large general thread, which could even be the whole forum aggregated. Sub forums tend to get ignored by most, so we should still have one that is what grassroots central has turned into.

But that's exactly what the "New Posts" button is for, at the upper left under home. That shows all the latest posts forum-wide. That is your one stop aggregate news source. The subforums need a push for better organization in my opinion, as the actual grassroots projects (ie. Shemdogg's work) is getting lost in the shuffle. And stuff gets pushed off the front page so fast, there are a lot of duplicate posts (which then make the problem worse!)

Well, I'm not joking. Grassroots Central gets too crowded, and things roll out of it so quickly, because threads like this don't get put in the correct subforum (and there is a subforum for this purpose) because too many OPs think their thread must be the exception as everyone must see it. Well, I use 'new posts' and see the threads anyway. And I have a thread of nearly four years standing in the Oklahoma subforum just because I don't want it to slide into oblivion.
And you know what else? If we subdivide this forum, everyone will find the busiest of the subdivisions and post every damned thing there, won't they? So what's the point?

I have to disagree. I like the fast pace and constant new threads. There is always something interesting on here.

That's actually a very good point, I wasn't looking at it from an activist recruitment point of view. The fact is that this is the most visited spot in the forum so most people want to post here. Most forums that I visit people hover in one or two categories while ignoring the rest until necessary.
I'm not sure how we could go about shifting that here. Old habits die hard.

It's so fast important things get missed even if your online at the forum at the time. It takes less then an hour for a thread to fall onto the next page.
The situations is not scalablle to have twice as meny members. Forums should be proportional to activity and subject else you would have all threaads in one giant forum!

Get those two freshman mods to do the grunt work of cleaning it up everyday. :p

We just need to encourage people to use other forums, including mods moving threads. I did not even know of one forum until the mods moved my thread there.

This section gets the most traffic, so people want to posts their stories here to get views/replies. Many simply start their threads here and just expect them to be moved later. Making more subsections isn't really the answer in my opinion. Getting people to use the other subsections already in placed seems like a more logical solution. We already have tons of sections, we just need to start using them. my 2 cents.

We do need a new sub-forum for media & news discussion, that would really cut down on the non grassroots related clutter.

I think the general discussion should be moved up near the top so people can see it without scrolling down, it is the most appropriate place for most of these threads. I think that over time General Discussion has taken a hit because people want their posts read by more, but I have no problem jumping back and forth between both. Maybe the mods should just move more threads there.
Also, there are a lot of sticky's on GC. Maybe some of them could be moved to Gen Discussion...?
There are a lot of times where there are duplicate threads in GC and GD, making GD useless at times. As mostly a lurker, the percentage of time I spend on GC is nearing 100%, I dont even bother to check GD much anymore, only once in every 20 visits. If GD was visible and had some of the content moved that would even out for me.
Just my thoughts on it.

I am going to speak up for those who really hate the idea of having to search numerous sections of the forum for threads. It is just such a pain in the ass lol. If something big or interesting is going down, I know I can find it in Grassroots Central. IK this is lazy haha but I AM SURE there are others out there who feel the same way.
definitely need a subforum for polls

If there was a way to have individual sections, but then have one section that pulls the most trending threads from all of the other sections into it, that would be awesome. That would be the best of both worlds.
