Use this thread to post suggestions for things to do around Philly the weekend of the rally. Some of us are bringing bored S.O.'s with us for the weekend who will be aching for "touristy" kind of things to do.

Well... there's the Liberty Bell/Independence Mall =P

Plenty of museums around:
The Franklin Institute (science, duh)
Philadelphia Museum of Art (I think they have a Renoir landscapes feature now)
Mutter Museum (oddities, reminds me of Ripley's)

There's a lot of theatres around like the Arden (for plays)...

And if they like shopping, there's a mall (The Gallery) on 10th-ish.

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of things, though, so feel free to post other suggestions!

Run up the steps at the Art Museum and do your own person reenactment of the famous Rocky scene. Yes, it is cheesy, but everybody does it and you know you want to.

There are 76ers games Friday and Sunday at home

And no one should leave philadelphia without experiencing a Flyers game! The crowd is unbelievable and LOUD!

There's a Flyers game tonight (Thurs) for anyone in town early and Monday night for anyone leaving late. Just dont wear non-Flyers jerseys and you'll be fine. You have to understand that Philadelphia sports fans are a lot like Ron Paul fans... Most of them are nice and welcoming - but still loud. Then there's that other 5% that hate everyone thats doesnt cheer for their team. LOL! Wow- thats actually pretty accurate.

We have a really great AHL Hockey team called The Phantoms as well - they have a game Friday night.

And if you get finished with the rally before 6 - you can go witness the spectacle that is the Philadelphia Roller Derby Girls - they have a championship double header that night. (yes, really! Roller Derby!)

Thats all the sports I can think of right now. :)

The Camden Waterfront Aquarium is very nice, too, but a little bit pricey. That are of the waterfront is very secure and safe. They have puppet shows and stingray touching tanks and such. There are amazing things called dragon fish there, that are my favorite.

Also,

Thurs: Stevie Wonder

Saturday pm : Jimmy Eat World
Annie Lenox is also in town

Sunday: Third Eye Blind

Just be aware that doing this will instantly mark you as a tourist that has no idea where they are :P :)

(But, we've all done it!)

There's actually a book by a man who stood outside the art museum steps over the course of months or maybe a year, and photographed strangers running up the steps, and asked them why they were running the steps, where they were from and to tell their stories. I thought that was an awesome idea :)

OK no seriously.... you should do a ron paul flash mob, and EVERYONE run up the steps at the same time... now that would be hilarious!!!
