Potential for the entire power structure to be discredited simultaneously

This is what happened in the USSR: the political, military, media, educational, monetary, financial and artistic elites were discredited swiftly and simultaneously when the contradictions of empire became to burdensome to bear any longer.

We may be nearing such a moment here with the Ron Paul campaign as catalyst. The political, media, financial and monetary authorities are clearly terrified of what is happening: large and increasing numbers of Americans learning about the contradictions of our own overstretched empire, and ready to change course. Those institutions that fight the reform risk being publicly discredited, but it's not clear what choice they have.

We are on the verge of something huge. If Ron wins Iowa and does well in NH, then all calculations are off. We will see a flood of new people coming in, and it will only escalate from there. By the general election, this forum may have more than 10x the traffic that it does today.

2012 will be a more politicized year than 1968. We'll be living in interesting and often exhilarating times.
