View Full Version : Time to switch our attention to Romney? Or just go positive?

From the latest PPP poll of Iowa:

"If Newt keeps falling it'll be good news for Mitt- 2nd choice of 30% of Gingrich voters, Paul only 11%"

"Romney has more room to grow than Paul in Iowa, leads 19-13 on 2nd choice of ppl open to switching vote"

Seems like it's time for a ceasefire on Newt.

We either need to target Romney, focus on building up Ron Paul with positive ads, or a combination thereof.

Thoughts?

Note: I am armchair campaigning; I'm sure the actual campaign knows what to do.

We need another serial hypocrisy ad for him. I'd make it exactly the same, just with Mittens clips.

Looking at the cross tabs, Paul can pick up the most support from Romney supporters. This is good because if Romney drops at all we get more support and widen our lead.

Yeah def need to turn our attention to Mitt now. Newt is done. We need newt, mitt and one of the second tier candidates to help keep the vote split.

I bet Romney has some last minute "newsletters" ads just waiting in case he has to drop nuclear weapons on Paul.

There is no reason not to have negative ads ready against romney as well

Romney will get our full attention once Iowa is done. Still not operating under the assumption that the good doctor has Iowa sewn up.

Complacency will be the death of us.

We're in the lead in IA -- how about just positive ads? Ron doesn't need to do anything high-risk like attack ads.

I still believe we need positive ads through the holidays. We attack right before the new year.

Yep, we need to blow Mitt out of the water and keep running the ad straight into New Hampshire.

With the incresed popularity of the 2nd amendment,
Romney has much weakness in this area.

You should go after Newt Gingrich until it is only Ron Paul and Mitt Romney for several reasons.

Newt Gingrich was a leader of the GOP. He represents the neocon brand. Destroy him, and you destroy the movement at the same time. This has long term consequence besides this election. He's far worse than Romney in this regard. He was there when the police state was being built. He planned a lot of it.

Gingrich still doesn't have a national support network and he didn't run in 88. Get rid of him before he builds on.

Gingrich is the last person that the neoconned tea party could try to support. Get rid of him, and there is no other pretenders.

A win in Iowa defeats Gingrich and puts Romney in the spot for New Hampshire.

Pick off one candidate at a time.

If Romney needs to be attacked, others will do it anyway.

I actually think we stay positive through Iowa -- I don't think Romney will carry Iowa since caucuses are very reliant on organization and familiarity, which Romney doesn't have in the state -- and we attack him coming out of Iowa, riding a wave of momentum from our victory in the Iowa caucuses and announcing to the rest of the country that we are in it to win it (starting with New Hampshire).

first go positive. Rand's Christmas ad will help. There has been a bunch of negative.

In regards to the above, the campaign should stay positive.

I think we need to go mostly positive, but definitely do a little bit negative Romney, maybe 75% positive 25% anti-Romney.

I say go positive , attempt to win Iowa/NH and grab the anti-Romney vote.

I think attack strategies work best. We should go all out against romney. He is also doing best in NH, so we need to put that to rest. It would be better to have perry in second. He would just have to appear in a few more debates and he would take himself out.

Stay positive. It will be much harder to attack Romney because the voters have been familiar with him for a long time now. He's not an unknown quantity like Gingrich was.

I think we should definitively spread positive stuff about Ron Paul, but negative is more effective quickly. I'm not sure the campaign itself should go negative, but grassroots sure can.

Positive in Iowa. Negative in NH. Extra negative with regards to Faux News. Time for ads going after the establishment.

I'm pretty sure I recall Romney saying something like "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" during one of the debates in '07-'08. Contrast that with Ron's warnings from 2003 and you've got a damn good attack ad.

Howzabout go totally positive with the messages being tailored to be the counterpoint to Romney without saying Romney. An 'unlike the other candidate/s' style of message.

The problem is that everyone foresees a negative campaign ad against Romney like we had with Newt. That makes no sense!

We do need more high quality ads like the first serial hypocrisy, but it would be much lighter and more humorous in nature.

Newt was evil. Romney is not. He's in many ways a decent man who unfortunately has zero sincerity when it comes to seeking or retaining elected office. That in conjunction with his campaign contributions from major financial institutions clearly mark him as more of the same.

The most recent video of Mitt's flipflops is excellent, as are some others. We need to keep improving on this and look into other areas to focus on.

Another thought is that we can do ads on Mitt contrasting policy differences. They don't have to be particularly negative in tone.

Positive in IA from here on in.

Also positive in NH, but with one good Romney flip-flop ad thrown into the mix with good exposure.

I say go positive...I like the ad with Rand..they should make one with carol and one about Paul being more electable than his rivals. They def should have a negative ad in their pocket for a last minute attack if needed.

Positive for now. Then saturate the airwaves in NH with ads exposing Romney's record, right after Iowa at the latest.

If polls show Romney moving up in IA, that plan may need to be moved forward.
