The Des Moines Register is a friggin Gannett Company... lulz... that explains a lot... scrape the bottom of the barrel for journalists.

There’s plenty of room for scrutiny of Paul’s agenda. He has a strong vision for the way things ought to be, but he says far less about the impact of his policies on the everyday lives of Americans. For example, changing to the gold standard may sound like the right thing to do in theory, but it’s hard to predict what that would do to the value of Americans’ savings accounts. But if Paul’s ship sinks, the Iowa caucuses need not go down with him.
Hard to predict? As opposed to what? We KNOW that the fiat rip off standard destroys savings. That's what it is designed to do. People holding gold are experiencing deflation while people holding worthless fiat paper are losers. Honesty is good not only in theory but in fact.

I really thought this article was positive. It seems like an obvious push back on those who say a Paul win would discredit Iowa. That is good IMO.

Really? Let me just interject that it is not at all hard to predict what the gold standard would do to the value of savings. Savings would hold their value. It is honest. It is at the heart of Ron Paul's economic policy.

Let me add... Ron Paul's ship is not sinking.

Gannett Company?
I pulled this from here. (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?339374-Des-Moines-Register-Ron-Paul-would-lead-to-Economic-Chaos&p=3870627&viewfull=1#post3870627)

And by *economic collapse*, she (the Gannett Chairman) means letting the too big to fails fail, and ending the practice of having Main Street send our money to Wall St.

From ZH this morning...http://www.zerohedge.com/news/newspaper-chaired-private-equity-head-shockingly-endorses-mitt-romney-president

The Des Moines Register is a Gannett company whose Chairman just happens to be one Marjorie Magner, whose bio reads: 'Ms. Magner, 61, is Managing Partner of Brysam Global Partners, a private equity firm investing in financial services firms with a focus on consumer opportunities in emerging markets founded in January 2007. She was Chairman and CEO of Citigroup's Global Consumer Group from 2003 to 2005. She served in various roles at Citigroup, and a predecessor company, CitiFinancial (previously Commercial Credit), since 1987. Ms. Magner currently serves as a director of Accenture Ltd. and Ally Financial Inc. and served as a director of The Charles Schwab Corporation from February 2006 to May 2008. Ms. Magner has broad business experience and financial expertise from the various senior management roles she held with Citigroup."

oh, come on, you know their link brings them here, and they were sticking up for Ron and fair play. Sure, they disagree with him, that is their right, but they are pointing out that what Fox et al are doing is contrary to the spirit of representation of the people. I'll take it.

That's what I thought. It was a good article.

Lol, 'hard to predict what it will do to savings..." oh please. It would preserve it, unlike the easy to predict steady bleeding of savings value that we have now.

Well they are correct that it's easy to predict what the federal reserve and fiat money does to our savings.

Mediocre journalism just doesn't cut it for me. The truth is that Ron Paul has introduced legislation for competing currencies (http://paul.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1891:competing-currencies-a-defense-against-profligate-government-spending&catid=62:texas-straight-talk&Itemid=69). Wouldn't the article be better if they would just research and write the truth?

I'm not that worried about the Register effecting the way independent minded people think. It's being known as a "liberal" rag since at least the mid 90's.
