They won't be on the ballot for the Mexican federal elections in 2012 due to the onerous requirements for ballot access imposed by the IFE, but hopefully they will make it for the interim elections.

Will do! For people who might make comparisons to the ineffectiveness of the LP in the US, remember that much of the seeds for the Ron Paul campaign and the entryism in the GOP were laid by a lot of the outreach efforts made by people in the LP.

In the case of Mexico, no strong libertarian wing exists in any party except perhaps a small unorganized faction in the PAN. Having an LP on the ballot in Mexico would mean the injection of points of view into the public discourse that are now non-existent. For example, NOBODY in the media here questions military checkpoints or the restrictions on firearms.

In Mexico all candidates on the ballot participate in all debates by law, so having a Libertarian Party would guarantee the widespread exposure of libertarian viewpoints.

LOL Well PRI is definitely an "empty vessel" party that will allow for any ideology as long as you "support the team". Eduardo Bours actually openly bashed socialism and statism as Governor of Sonora despite PRI being a part of an international leftist consortium.

Yeah that's why I was thinking of joining them. That and it actually gives you a good chance at winning if you play your cards right. PAN is going to get destroyed next election.

Where in Mexico are you living?

I am in Tijuana and have been down here for 7 years and had planned on naturalizing a couple of years ago, but the Calderon administration decided to change the requirements from 5 years with an FM3 to 5 years with an FM2, so I have 3 years left still.
