View Full Version : Iowa "Oath" Ad Campaign - Chip-In!

Liber Team
12-14-2011, 08:51 PM
Update: I have gotten rates from the Iowa Newspaper Association. The chip-in goal reflects the cost of running the ad as a 1/4 page full color display ad on Sunday in the Daily Nonpareil. Dusman has been messaged again about the ad modification. The Iowa Falls Times-Citizen was removed because their circulation was much lower than originally thought (only 3,780) so the next highest newspaper was added, The Daily Nonpareil.

Update: Will call Times Citizen and Sioux City Journal tomorrow. Contacted Iowa Newspaper Association tonight to see what their prices are like (could be cheaper than dealing directly), will hear back tomorrow. We have a thousand dollar donor! Dusman will send the modified ad to me tomorrow.

RPF,

After running three highly successful Iowa newspaper ad campaigns (#1 (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?329306-Help-Win-Iowa!-quot-Oath-quot-Ad-Chip-In&highlight=oath) #2 (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?330479-Help-Win-Iowa!-quot-Oath-quot-Ad-in-The-Daily-Iowan) #3 (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?335075-Help-Win-Iowa!-quot-Shock-quot-Ad-Chip-In)) featuring dusman's "Oath" ad and pauliticalfan's "Shock" ad, we would like to do a final ad campaign before the Iowa caucus on January 3rd. This ad campaign will be the most ambitious yet. It will reach hundreds of thousands of Iowans and address the sole issue holding us back from 1st place. What we are proposing is running the professional and attractive "Oath" ad (http://www.blackthisout.com/extras/fullpage-military-ad-repub.pdf) in as many Iowa newspapers as possible as close to the caucus as possible. The highest circulated newspapers will be targeted first. The first target is the Des Moines Register, the mother of all newspapers in Iowa with a Sunday circulation of 212,162. The ad (http://www.blackthisout.com/extras/fullpage-military-ad-repub.pdf) (modification will remove Cain and insert Gingrich) will be run as either a 1/2 page or 1/4 page full color display ad depending on how much we raise. We will deal with the Iowa Newspaper Association to get the lowest rates possible. Paypal charges 2.9% on the total sale which will be reflected in the chip-in goal. We have no time to waste, the longer it takes to raise the funds the more deadlines we will miss!

Can we run the "Shhhh...Newt" ad as well? We need to take him down a further notch.

We concluded that the foreign policy/national defense issue was the single most important issue to address as it is our biggest negative. We believe it is the sole reason we are not currently in first place in many polls across the nation. Others may run attack ads, but we are concentrating on this.

Any feedback from normal (not already Paul supporters) Iowans on the ad?

As I am not in Iowa I personally haven't gotten any feedback. I asked every newspaper I advertised with about feedback, but none responded. According to marketing experts I spoke with these are great ads and the forum definitely loves them. IDefendThePlatform might have gotten some feedback?

We have to realize that we're in a 3 way tie against Gingrich AND Romney. So it should be Paul vs. Gingrich vs. Romney vs. All Other GOP Candidates.

Yeah I ran a voter survey for a small scale ad campaign....are you serious? 8 Grand is a lot of money to be requesting from strangers on the internet. If you are telling people it's extremely effective I assume you must be basing that on something. If not, then you're misleading the people that are donating to you. I don't think this ad is going to be effective at all. I think it could even offend people that Paul is politicizing the military for personal gain.

I tend to agree with you. On the other hand, Dusman does good work.

I really don't think we should be in the messaging business. I think the official campaign should be in the messaging business. But not doing this means that the grassroots is down to doing almost nothing. The kind of things that I personally would like the grassroots to be doing aren't being done, no one really thinks they're good ideas, no one really wants to do them, etc etc. I don't think they're going to happen.

I would like there to be some sort of on the ground grassroots activity that will make it a point to get our key demo 18-29 year old men, who often do not vote, to the caucus. On the ground, hand to hand.

Maybe there should be a thread on that? Creative ways to get people to the caucuses.

I've listed House of Bricks, Vaudeville Mews, Peoples, Val Air Ballroom, Wells Fargo Arena as venues for events.

Grassroots in Des Moines should have money.

Just give them a ton of money and say "GET VOTES". We know that the 18-29s like us. We know that they won't vote for anyone else but Ron Paul. But we don't know if they'll go to the caucus at all.

We would benefit from straight up Rock The Vote turnout activity. We won that Polk County High School poll, with 6700 Polk County (Des Moines is in Polk County)
students. http://www.gis.co.polk.ia.us/mock_election/Static_Election_Files/all_electionContests.asp we got 2101 votes in that. Will they all caucus? Have we called them, and IDed them as Ron Paul supporters? Are they on any list that the Ron Paul campaign has? If they aren't on a list, Phone from Home will not be calling them, and we will not be IDing them, and reminding them when the caucus is.

I think it's foolish to have any communication with Iowa voters that hasn't been pre-screened. Otherwise you risk unintended consequences. There is a reason that no campaigns are running print ads - they aren't effective. I don't know why you think that you know better than all of the campaign experts competing in Iowa right now.

Have you purchased the rights to the soldier image? RevPac when they had the ad contest specifically disqualified an ad with that image due to the rights issue. If the rights have not been acquired it could set you, and everyone who pays for it up for legal trouble.

That's a good idea, but the campaign is set to unveil a national defense plan it seems and we may want to link to that.

I believe the original post states that they want to run the ad as close to the caucus date as possible. So that could mean it'll run on Sunday or Monday. They have posted images of the ads after they ran the other times, so be patient and you'll see a pic posted at some point I'm sure.

Hey guys sorry for the delay, been occupied with the holidays. The ad is going to run in The Daily Nonpareil on Sunday January 1 (today) as a slightly larger (to keep it from being distorted) than 1/4 page full color display ad. We'll reach approximately 35,000 people. We had to include an address on the ad as a requirement so we used the Iowa grassroots HQ address. It also had to say "Paid Advertisement". Some want to run this ad in NH and beyond, but coordinating these ads takes up a lot of time I won't be able to commit, hopefully someone else can take the lead in those states going forward. Dusman never provided an updated version of the ad so we ran the version with the pie chart at 70% for Ron Paul.

I'm going to be really disappointed if those involved in this pocketed any of the money because I promoted this to my subscribers and it was one of the things on this forum that I actually liked and took part in bumping on a regular basis. I don't really participate in this forum much (no need to explain why really, I think most will know why) and just pop in to see if there are these types of things that need funding, promotion, etc, and other important call-to-action type grassroots efforts.

I remember the initial chip-in was set at about $5000, before it was lowered, so if he/she/they used the first few ads that looked great to gain some trust to pull this money in to then just walk away with the money...well
