This can't be right. From the Huffington Post...

Ron Paul's Gingrich Attack Ad Cites Phony Figures (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/13/ron-paul-newt-gingrich-ad_n_1145670.html?ref=politics#comments)

But when referencing one article about Gingrich's earnings, the ad cites incorrect figures, according to the paper that wrote the piece in question. In a story published on Wednesday, Roll Call that said the ad misquotes the paper's Dec. 2 story about the former speaker's wealth:

But the ad eventually detours into fantasyland, asserting that "by the time he [Gingrich] left Congress, he’s brought his net worth to about $7-and-a-half million."

According to Roll Call's story, Gingrich listed about $606,000 in assets in his last financial disclosure before resigning from Congress in 1998.

HuffPo defending Gingrich???? Is this real life????

Seriously, it would be good to know the accurate info and who is wrong on this...

Figures is plural, so I assumed I'd see a whole list of incorrect values, but I only see 1 value pulled out of a nearly-2-minute ad that they see something wrong with.

And the value they pulled is a direct quote from a reporter, we just copied it, so they would have to take their beef up with them, not us.

I think his home, alone, was worth more than 600k....that certainly figures into his net-worth. Sounds like huff-po is twisting words here...

Since I haven't seen anyone actually try to source this informatio*n themselves I'll provide several links that cite Newt's net worth.

http://www*.foxbusine*ss.com/ind*ustries/20*11/10/04/n*et-worth-g*op-preside*ntial-cand*idates/
Cites Newt worth between $6.7mil and $25mil.

CS Monitor
As of August, reports the Daily Caller online news site, “Gingrich’*s total assets were valued at between $6.7 million and $30.7 million in 2010. He has written 23 books and produced eight documentar*ies with his wife. He commands between $40,000 and $50,000 per speech.”

http://www*.celebrity*networth.c*om/richest*-politicia*ns/republi*cans/newt-*gingrich-n*et-worth/
Claims Newt is worth $20 Mil.

Then reading the Roll Call article states "Gingrich had become a prosperous man during his time in Congress, but by the time he left in 1998, he was not a financial titan. His last financial disclosure form listed assets worth no more than $606,000..*."
It doesn't state that his last financial disclosure form was from 1998. Also for those who want to study the byzantine system of how financial disclosure*s work...

Newt wouldn't need to include promissory notes and other forms of yet to be received income.

Considerin*g the range of net worth I'd say this the author and Roll Call clearly have a strong anti-paul bias. Rather than say the ad "detours into fantasylan*d" maybe the author and Roll Call should cite their sources of informatio*n?

Minor and grasping at straws considering a lot of the outright distortions that pass for political ads these days. Hell, the media itself lies about RP all the time so this is small potatoes. Don't give it the hits or your time.

I do wonder why another ad about Gingrich was made when the first ad is/was very effective and we're still trailing Romney. I figured the next attack ad would have been about Willard, not a rehash of Newt. Hope the ad guy's wife isn't influencing these sorts of decisions.
