My mother is a 60 year old liberal-minded democrat who has a sphere of influence consisting of MSNBC, MoveOn, ThinkProgress, Keith Olbermann, etc. Although her heart is in the right place (and she has admitted that she thinks Ron Paul is a fairly nice guy), she says she could never vote for him based on some of his views. My mission? To get her to vote for him. She's the type that likes to watch television and generalize things at times, but I refuse to believe she can't be converted.

She disagrees on his views on abortion and what MSNBC told her his views on Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are. That's pretty much it.

So, I'm seeking any articles, editorials, videos, fact sheets, etc. that particularly relate to some of my mother's primary political interests; the others include civil rights (particularly women's), abortion & the right to choose, worker's unions, Social Security/pensions/401k/etc, the EPA, and health insurance. I'm sure there's more, but these are essential. If you have any additional ideas on how to help persuade her, feel free to contribute your ideas as well.

I really hope I can help her change her mind, so together we can help change the future.

Thank you.

Well, she should know that there's a good chance of Obama losing in 2012:

So would she rather a President who is against foreign intervention, protects civil rights and liberties, and will not federally rule on any social issues? Or would she like someone who does all of that AND has Republican policies, albeit not as far to the right as Paul?

Try using some of the points at BlueRepublican.org (http://bluerepublican.org/)

Your tone has to be "Oh, I see. But look here at his policy statement" (you can highlight mark for her with any policies she may not be clear on.) You can't tell a person they are wrong.

Do like the polls do. Find out what is important to your mother. Then show her where Ron Paul stands with her, or the other candidates do not.

(the abortion thing is going to be tough to overcome as groups have been arguing that for years).

I don't like the title of your post. Its inferring that Ron Paul is a "Jesus" and that doesn't fly well with people who have faith.

Abortion: Tell her how RP has delivered 4,000 children so his opinions lean pro-life, but if he were president, he would allow the states to decide, because it is not the federal government's issue.

That video helped convert my very liberal mother to pro-RP.

Social security, welfare, medicare, and medicaid will end. WILL. Either by our own volition or due to U.S. bankruptcy.

Therefore, we need to ask ourselves if it is wise to just wait for that fateful day or take steps now that will soften the blow. I think the answer is quite clear.

Like James Madison said, medicare Medicaid and SS are bankrupt. Unfortunately, most people don't want to believe this. Does your mother think that RP will abruptly end these programs and leave ppl to "starve in the streets?" if she's a liberal minded democrat, she probably wants to end the wars, right? reiterate to her that by ending the wars, shutting down the bases and essentially shutting down the warfare machine will make it possible to divert those funds to these, unfortunately, cherished programs that many have, again unfortunately, become dependent on. RP does not want to cut off those that are most vulnerable and dependent on these programs. He will, however, let the young "opt out." 'Cause otherwise it's, ya know, stealing.

Make sure she is aware that RP does not want to blanket ban abortion but overturn the federal governments role in the matter. I have noticed with a lot of liberals that they aren't too clear on this distiction.

Here's democrat John Conyers attacking Obama for calling for Social Security cuts in the budget deal.

Ron Paul
"I would cut all of this militarism instead of cutting people's medical care.
.... There's the agreement in Washington that you won't cut welfare spending and we won't cut military spending
...But you have to understand that when the dollar goes there's nothing left."

As for abortion, ask her if she might consider that a man who delivered over 4,000 babies might have a greater concern for life than average and cut him some slack. If that doesn't work...
