German interior ministers seek ban on far-right NPD

Germany's state and federal interior ministers have agreed to make a second legal attempt at banning the far-right National Party of Germany (NPD).

It follows news of the murders of 10 people, most of them ethnic Turks, allegedly by a neo-Nazi cell.

A ban on the NPD was rejected by the federal constitutional court in 2003 for legal reasons.

The interior ministers, meeting in Wiesbaden, agreed to set up a working group to put forward a new case.

The group of ministers would not themselves be responsible for making an application to the court, that is the responsibility of parliament or the federal government.

Hessen's interior minister, Boris Rhein, told the Sueddeutsche Zeitung that the NPD was "inhuman, anti-democratic and anti-Semitic". A ban would have to prepared carefully, he added.

A neo-Nazi group based in eastern Germany allegedly killed eight Turkish and one Greek immigrant between 2000 and 2006, as well as a German policewoman in 2007.

But the existence of the group only came to light last month when two of its members died in an apparent joint suicide and the third handed herself in to authorities.

One of the people subsequently arrested on suspicion of assisting the group is a former NPD official.

The far-right party does not have widespread support across Germany but does have representatives in the parliaments of two states in the east.

An attempt to ban the party failed in 2003 because the case had relied on evidence from paid informers within the organisation.

Anyone find it ironic that the guy who wants to ban a political party (pretty undemocratic to me) calls the party undemocratic. Ah, the paradoxes of the lunacy of democracy. Hey fool, the reason Democracy is a despots wet dream is because as a German should know, Hitler was elected democratically. Majority rule is a son of a bitch. Whatever the mob says goes. Great philosophy. Still wondering why socialism is considered 'far-right', and then socialism considered 'left' also. Why is NATIONAL Socialism on the right, and International Socialism on the left? Makes no sense. Left-right is so fucking stupid. It's Liberty or Tyranny. These bumbleheads are Tyrannous rats on both sides of this issue.

NPD is a natural response to a nation that wants to end its nation-state status without consent of those governed. i.e. Germany becoming non-existent within a larger EU. If the question were posed, do you want the Turks out or the NPD out, I am sure a different answer would be forthcoming.

It's funny because National Socialism to me was an egalitarian philosophy in that it wanted to create a group of people who were all equals. That's really the essence of left wing liberalism today, to create equality of economic outcomes amongst the people.

So while the article, from the BBC (immediately suspect as to point-of-view) alludes to national socialism, I don't see any of the people wearing swastikas, and the only people make inappropriate hand gestures appear to be wearing masks.

If I were a left-wing liberal in Germany or large Europe and wished to maintain my power, I'd try to ban them too by falsely trumping up their relevance and or importance.

Left-wing social engineering via the press is really interesting to watch. It's like baking cookies, you see them add all the ingredients to create a story that scares the naive against any other point of view that does not conform to their own.

I don't know much about the NPD, but the combining of subtle nazi references, "right wing hate", scary looking people and the BBC immediately throws up some eye-rolling flags for me.

Geez, we have the f'ing COMMUNIST Party in the USA. Europe needs to cool its heels about being scurried of all these contra viewpoints.

If Hitler were alive today, he'd be laughing at the labeling of Nazis as 'right'. Nazis were 'it'. There was no left or right. Just . . . Nazi.

And the ones in power in Europe today may not be Nazis, but they certainly want to be 'it'. They want to be the only party. Just . . . whatever.

I think it's funny that people think in far left and far right. The political spectrum is actually a circle.
