Sun Tzu's military tactics have been applied to many different applications, including business and politics. It's been said that it's a strategy, if used correctly, that will guarantee victory. If you have some time, watch these videos and think about tactics we can use to defeat Ron Paul's opponents. For example, one of the steps is, "Avoid what is strong, attack what is weak." How can we use this concept on Newt Gingrich. On what issue is he weakest? He is prepared for some of the things he is getting attacked on. How can we attack him on issues that he is not prepared for?

Everything Ron and the campaign has done lately indicates they've read Sun Tzu. The Serial Hypocrisy add came out of nowhere. Smacking The Donald worked
perfectly.
I wouldn't be surprised if more tricks are up his sleeve. I wouldn't be surprised if he achieves a devastating blow in Iowa. I wouldn't be surprised if he has big, quiet
money on the sidelines for Super Tuesday. I don't believe that all rich people are against Ron Paul while just us po folks are for him. It feels like he's running the
campaign of the century. Like he's got Patton whispering in one ear and Hannibal in the other.

How could Gingrich and Romney have known the nice old man packed such a punch?

@Forty_Twice You are probably right that they read it, but I think there are things we as supporters can use.

For example, what is one thing that really ticks Mitt Romney off? He hates being asked about Romney Care. We could have people show up at everyone of his campaign stops and ask him about it. He may start to focus on that, instead of the main issues the country is worried about. The economy, etc.

Ah, yes you are right. We could stand to individually adopt these tactics. When selling another person on supporting Ron Paul we must determine, who is our adversary? What is the battle? What is the terrain? What is the objective?

Perhaps the enemy is the MSM, Rush Limbaugh, other acquaintances who influence our current prospect's candidate preference. Perhaps that prospects' opinion is the
battle. The objective is to persuade the prospect to support Ron Paul. The issues we discuss might be the terrain. At any moment, we need to choose which battle to fight. To convert Prospect A or Prospect B?

Our prospect who is usually a family member, school mate, co-worker, or friend is absolutely not the enemy. Proving our prospect wrong and ourselves right is absolutely not our objective. I'd say that's the most important takeaway from my Art of War reading which happened far too long ago.

Determine who your enemy is and find ways to weaken them. A lot of my friends are Ditto Heads. De-legitimizing Rush Limbaugh when possible might be one possible
tactic. Tie him to Obama on foreign policy.

Choose your terrain. That's what Rush Limbaugh does. Too often, we let him choose the terrain or issues under discussion.

There is much we could learn from Sun Tzu to help us Ron Paul supporters.

Very well said. Thanks for your input:)

Understanding your enemy is the biggest take away you can have from The Art of War.

How does this apply to the current election?

The GOP remains the biggest threat to this campaign. We can sit here all day and argue that Ron Paul's stances are correct and that everyone else is delusional but that is only going to get us so far. I think the biggest thing we can do is market Ron Paul to the GOP machine. His name needs to be coming up at the highest levels. There are certain aspects of Ron Paul himself aside from his message that we need to convey.

Obama still has the grasp on independents, and the only real competitor that can challenge this is Ron Paul. Why? Foreign Policy plain and simple. The campaign needs to make sure the message is 1) His foreign policy is not isolationist 2) He will remain very active in using diplomats in resolving global issues instead of the military 3) He is doing this for the troops, their families, and the defense of this nation (supporting the troops is always a homerun with GOP voters)

Secondly, Ron Paul has no dirt. Zero. The only thing that can possibly come up in the General election is that comment on the 14th amendment and civil rights. Aside from that there is nothing. Romney and Newt both have a megaton of dirt that is going to be brought up from day one and is going to severely hinder their chances of beating Obama.

Reinforce the fact to the GOP that the overriding goal of this election needs to be to beat Obama and that Ron Paul's appeal and lack of baggage is the only thing that can do this. His youth support can also serve as a revitalization of a party characterized by baby-boomers and the elderly.

We need to quit focusing so much on working against the machine and instead working through it to ultimately change it.

"strike against the empty" is the one quote I know, but what does it mean?
- attack the know-nothings?
- attack space?
those crazy ancients!

Watch the videos, you'll get more insight. The videos talk a lot about war, but you can draw similarities with campaigning and achieving victory.
