I have been working for a while on converting some good republican friends/neighbors to Ron Paul and had a great talk with them last night. We had a very productive discussion about several issues, but I need help with this one:
At one point in the conversation, my friend said, "you know, there is something else I don't get about Ron Paul. He just seems like there is something missing." I gave my friend a look that said: "I'm not sure what you mean." Then he said "he just seems to be missing..., you know, that sparkle in his eye." At first I was like, huh? But then, suddenly it clicked and I realized what he was trying to tell me. I said, "You're talking about how he always seems to be so serious, and angry, and riled up?" My friend: "YEAH! EXACTLY."
Then I explained how he is given so little time in the debates, how he has to give background for his answers, how he has been mistreated by and ridiculed by the media for years, blah blah blah... and THAT's why you see him like that, because he knows his mike will be shut off soon and he won't get to speak any more and so he feels angry, rushed, and a little panicked.
Then I went on to describe the real Ron Paul that we all know and love. The one that does interviews in dorm rooms, puts hats on backwards and raises the roof, posts on facebook about working in his garden, sticks up for reporters being pushed out of the way, and gets a "sparle in his eye" whenever he talks about babies. The endearing Ron Paul that we all know and love. My firend responded well to my response - like it made a lot of sense, but I want him and his wife to meet and experience the real Ron Paul.
I have been searching on youtube for something that would capture the essence of his true personality so I can show it to my friends and introduce them to the Ron Paul that the media hides. Can't find anything.
Any ideas?
