They just aired it, and made a new ad for him poking fun at the Big Dog ad.

So, Ron Paul is a psycho killer, a mad dog, a satanic figure. He's going to slash food stamps and all the things poor people depend on and destroy the country. That was my takeaway from their version.

Well, as you know it was a parody of the big dog ad so just keep that in mind. Basically it says Ron Paul will slash the US to nothing (big explosions!) and give every citizen a rusty pipe so that we can beat each other to death when society falls apart (screen goes red with running blood at that point). Then shows some guy get branded across the forehead with “Ron Paul” as the moderator says: “Don’t be a p**sy, vote for Ron Paul!” It ends with a Ron Paul still shot frothing at the mouth then shows him with red eyes.

That's about all I can remember but hopefully that helps.

I think this was a great thing! A little marketing 101 here:

The more neutral and safe the marketing campaign/ad is the more soft the support is. The more and more extreme the marketing is one way or another the more and more extreme the level of support is albeit smaller in numbers. This is why Ron Paul gets our level of extreme support, because in a way he is an extreme candidate. It always proportions out. Now you can see why Rand Paul is playing his cards a little differently than Ron Paul. He's probably expecting to receive his Dad's extreme support and is now reaching out to the masses.

So I'm sure Conan got our message out to some receptive ears.

It was mostly funny though remember who owns TBS and signs Conan's check: Ted Turner. The same man that has spouted that the planet needs a 95% reduction in population, one child policies like China's, the likely financier of the Georgia Guidestones, globalist definition of the 1% elite, etc.

Having said that, the best way to handle this ad is to remark how funny it is because it's so over the top. Show that Paulites have a sense of humor and just don't get defensive about it. In the urban vernacular, "play it off".

Team CoCo satirizes Ron Paul TV ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCuF86FD7nk)

RON PAUL: In my budget, Social Security, Medicare, — and yes, student loans — are not cut in any way for those currently receiving such services or for those who will be in the near future. Our economy is not healthy enough, nor are most Americans in a financial position at the moment, for any of these programs to be significantly altered now. But perhaps after balancing our budget during my presidency, reining in the government and easing the regulatory burden placed on the taxpayers — which will result in a more robust economy and new jobs — the price of education and other services will decline because of more free market competition and less government interference. Then, and only then, will we be able to address whether some of these programs are the best way to care for people.

I don't think cutting the department of health and food stamps is any more popular with liberals or any less popular with conservatives than cutting the department of education. Most people think education, health and food are all good things. There's a serious debate, however, whether the federal bureaucracies set up to "manage" these things are the best bang for the buck.

Anyway, I see the spoof as a net positive for the primary. Republicans will see it and go "Look at those evil liberals misrepresenting conservative views again". Yeah it might give some pause to potential crossover dem votes.

Sure we do. We also know that a lot of Americans have a hard time differentiating between humor and reality. I can't tell you how many times I've seen liberals "quote" Sarah Palin, only to be quoting the Tina Fey/Saturday Night Life caricature of her. And yes they seriously were getting those two things confused.

I thought it was hilarious, people are just defensive because of all the time and effort put into this campaign I guess, but honestly, it was just free ad time.

I think it's funny too. And I think it will actually help us in the primary, though it could hurt us some in the general. This ain't fun and games. We have to be aware of how everything might play out, even "humor".

Most likely. It would be difficult to win a slander suit against something that's obviously a parody. The campaign could claim copyright infringement, but again it's a parody and would most likely be allowed under fair use. And it wouldn't be good publicity to sue over a parody of a campaign ad.

Right JM. I wasn't even considering lawsuit at all. No point in going that route. Just did not realize that as stringent as the FEC is over campaign rules, that the "approval" message passes any kind of litmus test, even in a parody. It doesn't bother me, but just raised a little flag.

True, that's Conan's job, making fun of public figures.

I've watched Conan off and on since day one, as well as Letterman, Stewart, Colbert, etc., and poking fun at figures is a great American tradition.

In our country it must be done.

Where the writers really piss me off is when truth is made out to be ridiculous. Is it because I'm older now? Maybe. All I know is poking fun at policy that is based on truth is a dangerous thing -and lame. The Conan ad could've been 1,000 times more funny IMO if it would'nt have taken the truth skewing route.

Like any great artist/art, when truth is put out there in an uncompromising way it's an excellent thing. IMO just skewing truth isn't anything special.

"we hide ourselves in the music to reveal ourselves" - Jim Morrison > simply hiding ourselves

"Don't be a pussy, vote for Ron Paul" has been the slogan for me since I've heard of the guy -and it is truth put out there in an uncompromisng and funny way.:)

( Do they think?)

I don'get it.
If WE don't really believe in getting rid of goverment and are afraid of some disagreements..then WHAT'S THE DAMN POINT?
I DO want to get rid of all those departments and more,IRS,Federal income tax,EPA,food stamps and more.
I thought that's what Ron Paul stands for!
All of a sudden i have to ask :
Are you guys telling me that i am with the wrong candidate?

He is just the peace candidate... but is going to keep all those programs going?
If you ask me:
FUCK THAT!

A lot of people don't believe in big goverment,LOTS .
we need to convince more,period.

Guys,on the ad :
You are too mental, you think too much.
The ad was just FUN .
A laugh never hurts anyone and this actually helps to create buzz.

Also ,if you are so worried about criticism or sarcasm..don't get into politics trust me..

If we WIN will get A LOT of that from the MSM like you have never seen,be ready.

"proportions out"...?

Safe Ad = Massive, but soft support. Everyone can get behind a safe message.
Extreme Ad = Small, but extreme support. Not everyone can identify themselves with it, but therein lies the secret.
Now we're talking about reaching out to people's "identity" and that's where the extreme support comes from.

That's what I meant. You're level's of support in quantity and quality are proportional to your ad. So if you run a business selling lawn mowing services and you have red white and blue decorating your website and a blog talking about conservative ideals, you'll get less customers but the ones you do gain will be very loyal. This is sometimes more ideal for some businesses.
