If Americans see Rick's budget plan as realistic and needed, maybe this could take away from our potential voters who's main issue will be the country's debt and cutting spending?

Then Ron could modify it to produce a balanced budget in year one.

Is this 5 trillion in real cuts or just 5 trillion in cuts to proposed spending increases using baseline budgeting? And over how many years? I know we are spending a lot but I don't think its up to 5 trillion a year. I guess I'll have to watch the video.

Isn't federal spending around 4 trillion?

So one trillion in baseline budgeting cuts per year.

"I will immediately cut $5 Trillion! (over 25 years with a balloon cut at the end of year 25 of $4.99 Trillion) I'm such a genius!"

I think that was merely an off the cuff comment.

Title is wrong. Santorum says that in the first 100 days "I will put forward a plan that will cut 5 trillion over 5 years" (listen 1:20 in). So basically he'll cut 1 trillion per year.....just like Ron Paul. Only it's not just like Ron Paul as Ron specified where his cuts would come from. And yet I know you got the title from Breitbart. That's pretty sloppy on his part.

I notice people are getting hyped about this in the comments section. Well, I'd like to see Mr. Santorum's plan before I cast any judgement.

Santorum makes Newt look like a slam-dunk.

Let's see a list of what he will cut. Ron gave one.

He championed No child left behind etc etc. As a fiscal conservative he is a big spending liberal.

I'm sad to see this. I disagree with him mightily, but though he was true to his big government in private AND public life principles.

Oh, as long as people who are polling near zero-percent are throwing around outrageous claims and numbers, I'll do him one better. On day one, I will propose a budget that cuts $10 trillion dollars over only four years. Who needs 100 days to put something together? And what kind of putz limits the cuts to that trivial amount, over such a long time-frame?!

Please, Rick!

There isnt going to be a plan, just an empty promise.

He also says that the federal budget would represent, after his cuts, 18% of GNP.

Let's see. If the GNP now is around 15 trillion and the economy grows 1% each year and annual inflation is around 5% (which is low, considering the current monetary policy), then 18% of this would be around 3.6 trillion dollars.

If today's total federal revenues is around 4 trillion, then his (real) cuts would be almost 1.5 trillion over the five years.

So, basic math shows that this is just BS. His cuts are mainly cuts from proposed increases. Just that...
