Newt Gingrich - 17%
Mitt Romney - 6%
Rick Perry - 3%
Michele Bachmann - 2%
Rick Santorum - 1%
Gary Johnson - less than 1%
Several internet outlets following Ron Paul were the first to report he came in first in the inaugural Oklahoma Straw Poll (46 percent).
The often controversial U.S. Congressman from Texas catches heat for his near-isolationist foreign policy.
Talk show hosts like Hannity and Boortz have praised Paul’s plan to cut a trillion dollars from the national budget and to take measures to immediately slash the national deficit.
Herman Cain, who suspended his presidential campaign over the weekend, had a strong showing in the poll, coming in second (25 percent) according to tweets from Oklahoma City.
Cain was set to appear at the 2012 Victory Rally where the poll results were announced.
Newt Gingrich, who has had strong showings in several recent national polls, coming in first in many, took third (17 percent) in Oklahoma’s poll.
The poll required a $5 donation via credit card to vote online.
Voting ended Monday and was tabulated electronically.
Romney 6 percent, Perry 3 percent, Bachmann 2 percent.
