Ron Paul Campaign Releases 0-Second Version of Newt Ad

Ad takes hard look at the former Speaker’s record

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today that it will release a shorter 60-second version (http://iowaforronpaul.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=af10358490fc15b52a962f667&id=3d4c4f8ca2&e=faeada51fb)
of an earlier web advertisement that challenges former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on a group of issues dear to conservative voters.
Much of the ad is in the former Speaker’s own voice, and after a few statements by Newt it features news clips about the former Speaker’s lobbying ties to government mortgage giant Freddie Mac, a firm that helped perpetuate the financial crisis and recession. In addition, the spot showcases discussion of Newt’s lobbying ties to healthcare firms prior to his support of an Obama-Pelosi-Reid individual mandate as part of the recent wildly unpopular healthcare reform, to the absolute horror of nationally-syndicated conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

The campaign is shipping the ad to Iowa TV stations today, and it will be going up as part of an expanded Paul buy in Iowa beginning on Wednesday. It will run in conjunction with Paul’s other new ad, ‘Big Dog (http://iowaforronpaul.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=af10358490fc15b52a962f667&id=e71eed7f9a&e=faeada51fb)’.

“We wanted to ensure this ad reached as many voters as possible, to debunk the myth that the Newt we are seeing on the 2012 campaign trail is the conservative he has been touted to be all along,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

“The voters are looking for authentic conservatives who are able to show a decades-long career of consistently walking the walk of Constitutional principles, limited government, and promoting sound economic policies. Ron Paul is the only Republican presidential candidate with that record.”

The idea is for Newt to be damaged enough to lose Iowa and do poorly in New Hampshire, not to make a firm enemy of him.

Remember folks, from now on Ron Paul can not be burning bridges to other establishment GOPers, the goal is to subvert them to the cause even if we can't win them over completely ideologically.

Winning creates it's own new problems and if you actually pay attention to Ron Paul himself, why he's clearly of the opinion it's always best to focus on your opponents philosophical and policy shortcomings and not their personal lives or behavior or even their politics.

There are plenty in the media willing to do that for him.

Nice edit job to get it down to size. Surprised they didn't find a way to leave in the commercial with Pelosi.

Jesus. This ad is ridiculously hard-hitting and attention-grabbing. The Serial Hypocrisy is probably the most well-produced attack ad in recent memory, maybe ever. Wow.

I also really liked the closing line they had from Gingrich about "what will you tell us next?" Unfortunate, the things that have to be sacrificed to cut it down.

newt will not attack ron. It would be punching down for one and secondly Newt wont take any of our support so his best shot is to refute the claims and try to chip away at Mittens base.

That would vault Paul firmly into the top tier. I'm thinking that Newty will hold off until Paul is closer to do that, but I definitely think he and Romney each have knives up their sleeves.

Yeah, I didn't think he was going to either, but now that we're closing to single digits I think he might get spooked. Especially since Benton was saying all that Tiffany's stuff. Anyway, he doesn't need to take our support as he is already the frontrunner. He just has to damage Ron's numbers.

I wonder if they re-cut the ad after seeing the PPP poll. The crosstabs show Gingrich with 27% support. But somehow of the polled that say "a candidate who supported an individual mandate would raise major concerns" 30% would vote Gingrich. "Some concern" give Gingrich 29%.

It's good.

I was imagining a commercial yesterday called "The Rule of Law" where he blasts the other candidates for support Waterboarding torture, Patriot Act, indefinite detention, eavesdropping, assassination of U.S. citizens etc.

Then end with him recommending Frédéric Bastiat
