The Democrat pretending to be a republican (RINO) had this to say:

Newt Gingrich offered praise for Bill Clinton today while on Staten Island, suggesting the major lifts of the 1990s like welfare reform wouldn't have gotten done without him - and comparing his style favorably to President Obama's.

"Clinton had been governor for 12 years," Gingrich went on. "He understood negotiating with the legislature. Little things. Having the ... picnic for families. Having families with children bring the kids over. Having people fly on Airforce One. Little courtesies. Phone call on a birthday. There are a thousand small things that create bipartisanship even if you disagree about big things...all the little human things that a good leader can do to get the city of Washington working again."

There are a few things about what Gingrich said - he's not only aiming to depict himself as a maverick outsider, he's also focusing on bipartisanship and solutions, which will be a necessary sell with independents and moderates in a general election.

That said, the 1990s weren't always studded with bipartisan shows, even tiny ones, of good will, and the reference to Air Force one prompted some raised eyebrows - since Gingrich famously gave partial blame for the government shutdown of that time to the fact that he was told to deplane Air Force one, after a trip for Yitzhak Rabin's funeral, from the rear.
