Donald Trump apparently didn't take kindly to Ron Paul's decision to skip the NewsMax-hosted forum moderated by the developer and reality TV star, saying it created a circus-like atmosphere around the presidential race.

"As I said in the past and will reiterate again, Ron Paul has a zero chance of winning either the nomination or the presidency," Trump said in a statement in response to Paul, adding, "my poll numbers were substantially higher than any of his poll numbers, at any time."

"Few people take Ron Paul seriously and many of his views and presentation make him a clown-like candidate," he said. "I am glad he and Jon Huntsman, who has inconsequential poll numbers or a chance of winning, will not be attending the debate and wasting the time of the viewers who are trying very hard to make a very important decision."

Trump referred to his book that's coming out and his claim he is worth more than $7 billion, and asked why he is "not the right person to lead this country out of economic chaos or at least to moderate a debate. I would like to see how Ron Paul would fair in the world of big business."

Paul was the first candidate competing in Iowa to reject the invitation for the Dec. 27 event. His move may give cover to other candidates to do the same - although Trump's comments are a reminder of the potential problem with skipping it.

I really hope some of the other candidates back Ron and Jon up on this.

Problem is, if this gets out en masse, Republicans are going to take this and run. Trump is seen as some great guy who still has a chance to legitimately run this country.

Should you break that link?

If Benton and team are looking for a retort to that:
Well:

From:http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/donald-trump-filed-bankruptcy-times/story?id=13419250
In 1991, 1992, 2004, and again in 2009, Trump branded companies or properties have sought Chapter 11 protection.
"I've used the laws of this country to pare debt. ... We'll have the company. We'll throw it into a chapter. We'll negotiate with the banks. We'll make a fantastic deal." --Trump

I might suggest something along the lines of:

We don't need Trump to lead the country into bankruptcy like his companies have done 4 times before -- we are already there. We need a leader that knows how to keep fix the problems that led this country down that road in the first place and Dr. Paul is that leader.

Any question as to whether this was the right decision moreso than the most politic decision has been answered. Dr. Paul is a man amongst boys; Trump makes most teenagers look wise beyond their years. The Donald is The Joke. God bless Ron Paul!

I could definitely see Trump endorsing Newt. But, this debate is a month away, isn't it? A lot can change.

We may need to watch out for Huntsman now. Someone on here has been talking about the SNL skit and saying the same, who is that? Anyway, I'm starting to see the same thing. The media is laying the groundwork for their contingency plan if Gingrich doesn't hold out: Huntsman.

HERE IS MY PREDICTION:

This debate will now be perceived as Romney vs Newt. Romney doesn't want a one on one debate so he may drop. If that happens then it'll be the rest of the candidates vs Newt on stage which Newt doesn't want. This means that Newt may drop.

So my prediction is that this event won't happen at all, thanks to Ron Paul's fortitude.

How could anyone who donates money to the likes of Charlie Rangel,
Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Rahm Emmanuel be considered an advocate
of limited government? Trump even supported Democrat Harry Reid for
Nevada U.S. Senator over tea party backed Sharron Angle. Backed government healthcare in his 2000 book as well:

It appears Jesse and I are on the same page:
http://thevote.abc13.com/2011/12/ronpaul-team-responds-to-realdonaldtrump-comments.html

I asked Paul's spokesperson Jesse Benton for a response to the comments. Here it is:

If Trump wants to be taken seriously by Republicans, he needs to quit Celebrity Apprentice and apologize to the Iowa GOP. If he gets his act together, President Paul might consider getting his advice on fixing our countries (sic) financial situation. We understand Donald has a lot of experience with bankruptcy.

Way to go Mr. Benton.

On a level playing field with no special interest assistance, I would take Dr. Paul easily. :D

Although the history behind's Trumps money is not clear, his father amassed $200 million by the end of the 60s (I believe! Could be wrong...). Donald took over that business - or started to - during the 70s. In 1970, the price of gold was $35. Today it is more than 50 times as high. $200 million of Trump money in 1970 would be $10 billion of Ron Paul gold today. By that measure, Donald Trump is doing 3 billion worse than Ron Paul would have.

Plus, I suspect mining stocks would have provided for additional return and sufficient income on which to live.
